Had a lesson yesterday, first one in about 8 years! Wake up this morning and I can hardly move. The insides of my legs are black, especially around my important bits and I'm in sooooooo much pain!!! I have a bad hip too, which when I ride effects my right ankle. I thought it was going to snap off while my Hitler instructor continued to push me in trot and canter!! I had told him that I wasn't riding fit and that I hadn't had a lesson for years! It was only suposed to be a 30 min assesment lesson and I spent at least 15 mins in canter!!!

So I'm feeling very sorry for myself! Start work at lunch time and cannot afford to take a sickie! Will have a hot bath in a bit and some pain killers. I have decided to cancel my lesson next week and go somewhere else. My instructor made me feel so **** that yesterday I was on the brink of giving up riding altogether! Said nothing constructive at all, just put me down for hacking and said any idiot can sit on a horse and let it follow the one in front??!!! At the end of the day I wanted to improve my fitness, riding ability and have some fun....not participate in the bloody Olymipics!!!

Ow! Sounds like a bath is a good plan! I would reccommend wine but probably not a great idea with work, I prefer hot choccie anyway ;)

As for your instructor, is it worth having one more lesson with them before you decid whether or not to change? Might be that if you explain that you want to come out of the lesson feeling more positive then they could change their method of teaching?

Often, for me, a more pushy approach helps me overcome fears or more difficult bits, but if they are too pushy I end up really upset and disheartened. In the end what is important is finding an instructor that teaches YOU as an individual and can adjust any lessons so that they benefit you to the maximum... not leave you bruised and upset.

Well done for voting with your feet. I would also make it quite clear as to why you are cancelling the lesson too. Have a Radox bath, the one designed for tired muscles. It works wonders.Hope you are feeling better soon.

Poor you :( Sorry your lesson was so awfull, I agree with you about changing your instructor, I don't think he will change his ways so much better to find someone who will understand you more and be more sympathetic!

that's how i was a few weeks back when i rode for the first time in over 3 years- 45 minutes nearly finished me off! hot bath in the powder radox is very good for aching legs :)
I would also change instructor if he ignored you saying you weren't up to doing that much. Hope you find a more sympathetic instructor who lets you build up slowly.

I know that feeling, I had that a couple of weeks ago I had only been out of it for a year. Week after was much better, no where near as sore :) Agree on changing the instructor, he clearly wasn't listening to you or being sympathetic to your needs. Fair enough you may want someone who does pick you up on the bad things, but you need to praise when you're doing it right and critism needs to be constructive. Hope you find someone who works well with you :)

Oh bless ya, if you feel bad today, wait until tomorrow!

sorry maybe shouldnt of said that :D, you'll live though and it will of done you the world of good, no pain no gain! ;)
