Evening everyone :D

Mad Mare seems to be getting more and more excitable recently and today I came scarily close to having my first fall from her as she spun around and around on front legs, then back legs, and then proceeded to energetically rodeo her way across a field at high speed - the spins left me dizzy, I lost my stirrups during the broncing and I'm sure the only reason I managed to stay on was due to the gel acavallo seat saver I splurged on last week - glad I did!

Now I realise that due to her wonderfully enthusiastic nature () it's only a matter of time until I get lovingly thrown to the floor, but I'd like to put this off as long as possible as a) I'm not too sure how I'd ever catch her again and b) I'm still recovering from last years nasty fall and don't fancy another one any time soon. Unfortunately she seems to be immune to every calmer I've tried so far so can't even chill her out that way (bless)

I've heard about Sticky Bum jods but never used them - and when buying my seat saver I was told not to wear them as I'd stick to it and be unable to get off - now this sounds ideal!! ;) Is this true, are they really that effective (even if it means I have to be lifted off with saddle attached)?! Are there any brands which are particularly good but won't cost a fortune?

Any other superglue alternatives would be fab too! x

Just to take this slightly OT.. Which seat saver did you get?? I've been looking at them and wondering!

For sticky bums you need some Kerritts! They are the stickiest jods around!

Just took delivery of a pair of sticky bums from Equestrian Clearance for the bargain price of £19.99. 'Does what is says on the tin'. Good quality jodhpurs that have me superglued to the saddle so much so that rising trot is almost an effort. :D Saved me a couple of days ago when someone doing target practice in an adjacent field let off a shot. My boy (as did I) jumped a mile, he took off across the ménage pig rooting madly, bucking and bolting all the way. The sticky bums saved me as this time I managed to keep my seat rather than slide and bounce every which way. The OH was impressed with my riding ability, however I think that without the sticky bums they would still be trying to find my lifeless body amongst the bushes on the other side of the ménage fence :p

Be careful you're not too stuck to the saddle- my boy loves doing rodeo impressions, when they bronc properly they flatten their backs and this made his well-fitting saddle slip right round- you may need to bail!
I found an old flash strap and threaded it through the D-rings on my saddle- an excellent handle :)

Thank you everyone, will do some shopping & keep my fingers crossed for todays adventures!!

Leg_end, I bought the "gel out" one as this has the added stickiness / glue effect I was so desperately after - it's very comfy too. The "gel in" is made of a suede-y material (I believe) and so is comfy but not sticky x

Try 'saddle tite'. I use it on my chaps as my mare has huge trot. It's a hard stick, no colour, you just rub on where you need it. To remove just put clothes (such as chaps) through washing machine. Plant based, no smell or staining. Not cheap, about £10 per stick but lasts ages. Found it very good.
