ok so i knew i was going to be sore for a few days after spending two hours in the saddle for the first time in my life last tuesday but............

it saturday now and i still cant bend down with out feeling like some ones stabbing me in the back of my thighs with a red hot knife and if i try to kneel then my hips and sides are agony too and my left hip just hurts all the time no matter what i do!

i can still walk ok (just) and it does all feel a bit better when im stood up and walking around but i really am starting to think im permanently broken and if i have any more hot baths im going to start evolving flippers!

bloody horses!!!!

cheers

welcome to the wonderful world of horses

It does get better. They key is to keep moving and stretching.

Oops.

Do somegentle stretches both before and after riding, and every morning and evening if you can. Daughter's sports Physio insists on them (daughter was wonky). I do them and it's made a huge difference, if I don't I often can't straighten up after being sat down

Ibuprophen or Ibuleve

Oh dear! Yes, lots of stretches and a bit of warming-up beforehand too. Of course, the best thing to do is get back on that horse and get those muscles used to it

Do you do any other sport?

other than walking with the lurcher and shooting not really!

I went on holiday for two weeks and then rode for two hours (I regularly hack for two hours), and OMG did I ache afterwards. Horse riding reminds you of muscles you didn’t even knew you had, he, he! My advise, do it more often, your body gets use to it.

It could also be your hip joints protesting at being asked to rotate out sufficiently to get astride - it is a really tough thing to do if you are not used to it

Have you taken any ibuprofen- it might help? I ride a lot but sometimes my left hip gives me gyp so I take an ibuprofen just to take the edge off it.

Oh poor you, i can totaly relate to this, i had a lesson a while back after 15 yrs out of the saddle, i couln't walk properly for 4 days, I found tiger balm really really helped! Wish you better

To hell with Ibuprofen, you need 2 saches of bute (phenylbutozone) morning and evening for 2 days then cut it down to 1 sachet for 5 days with gentle walking out Am and Pm. No fastwork or hill work till your off the bute =)

I can relate too, I rode on holiday for the first time in a year or so, did one two-hour hack, and spent the next day and a half going up and down the stairs sideways!

Nice hot baths and ibuprofen is the way forward for you

Hyperion - no offense meant it is my standard recomendation to any one in pain...that or 6mnths at grass or a bullet =)-

In the past I have used horse products (cooling gels, anti-inflamatory creams) on my own injuries and they work so much better than anything the chemist will give you! =)

I hope your muscles recover soon!

PS Have you played the sympathy card for all its worth? ;-)
