hey

so... i'm hoping to be all moved into my new house by the time i pop (mid september).
we're moving to a village called gedney. which i'd never heard of til we went there to see the house... i'm leaving behind all my friends... but we're doing it to have Raff at home with us, and also give the kids a chance to have a pony/different way of life. So, i'm actually really looking forward to it.

However, i need to know all the basic stuff about where we're going... and meet some horsey people too...

Does anyone live near there? Postcode is PE12 0DE, and it seems to be equidistant between Wisbech, Spalding and Kings Lynn.

Can anyone recommend:

A good riding school/instructor?
Somewhere i can hire a school once a week or so?
A good farrier?
A good fencing company (cheap please!)?
Good places to hack?
A nearby beach that's ride-able on?
Some nice friends for me...

This is almost a lonely hearts advert... except i'm happily married... cos i could really do with some hacking/showing friends.... i'm lovely, 31 (going on 18), and would love to start going along to some clinics/local shows/beach rides etc. So... if you live anywhere nearby... be my friend.... please... i'm desperate.... oh, no, that's too desperate....

You'll be fine

. All your reasons are the same as why we're looking (currently in discussions with one in Wales and one in Suffolk!).

You'll be about two hours away from us, but when/if we ever get to that point, we'll have to find a middle ground and go for a blast

sounds good... though i may have to feed Raff some oats to get him to 'blast' anywhere... he's more of a 'trundle'...

whereabouts in suffolk? whereabouts in wales?

my hubby is from suffolk (near Ipswich way) and i grew up in wales (Llandeilo)... two very different places for you to choose between!

i've just been told by my husband that we're moving to Gedney Broadgate, which apparently isn't Gedney itself, it's a nearby village.

see, i suck, i don't even know where i'm moving to, despite being the person that's arranging the whole thing... however, if you were to ask the exact shade of Duck Egg in the kitchen, i could tell you... or the exact size of the area i have earmarked for stables....

Holkham and all the North Norfolk coast will be within easy travelling distance for you. You lucky lady, horses at home AND the beach relatively close by... Good luck with the move and everything.

You're a few minutes from me there!! I can box Vogue over for hacks!

I use;

Farrier-Michael Flatters
Dentist-James Arkley
Vets-Oakham (though use Pilgrim Vets in Boston for routine stuff)
I don't have an instructor-Kerilli or Miller would probably be best to ask about yards/schools/instructors and arenas. Me and Vogue just trundle around in our own little world lol

I can be a lovely friend though *polishes halo* and have a lovely double trailer shoud it be needed.

oooh, ooh, ooooh, how exciting!

where do you live? do you know anything about schools and stuff? as in kid's schools, not horsey ones? i presumed my eldest (12) would go to the nearest school, which is 'Peele' school.... it's just down the road. but they are full in his year. they said i can appeal and get him in, or send him to another one nearby and they'll arrange transport etc... but, other than ofsted reports (they are all ok) i don't know how to choose.... or should i appeal to get him into Peele?

i'm going to google those vets/farriers etc... whooopee! my hubby will tell me i shouldn't ring up and register him until we've exchanged contracts cos he's SUCH a spoilsport...

i'm starting to dread the move slightly less now... i know why we're doing it (i was the one that was desperate to move and have Raff at home with me) and i know we'll love it. it's just such a big step and so far away from my friends and my work etc... it's scary. but being able to give Raff his breakfast in my PJs will make it worthwhile!

hello!! I'm just up the road too, another farrier option is Kent Equestrian, as Geoff has recently started working locally, I use Isle Vets at Ely for most things as they are usually in the area at least weekly. I also went to the Peele many years ago, but we still have the 11+ here so maybe the Grammar school in Spalding is an option?? My little boy is six so don't know too much about secondary schools yet!!

Ps.. Am 29 and could really do with some horsey friends as am also billy no (horsey)mates with ponies at home, and other half/friends not horsey at all!!

oooh, i'm with Isle vets already, i didn't realise they came up there (i currently live about one mile away from them). i may as well stay with them then. i have always been more than happy with them (and they have a hot vet...)

sadly, my son wouldn't do too well on the 11+, so very much doubt he'd get to the grammar school... what he really needs is somewhere sporty, as he's FAB at sports.

did you like The Peele?
i'll PM you. x

Im not local but do have friends over that way and i had my horse with David Deptford he has just built a fab arena at coldham bank nr march does lessons and there are regular shows there ..

Oooh, yay! You'll be a few miles down the road from me!
tongue.gif
I remember sending you a great big PM before about a load of stuff in this area, so I won't repeat it all - but I really recommend Broadgate Stables, it's an excellent riding school. I go there, and they're so nice and professional - they're in the process of getting BHS approval, so everything is done by the book lol. I will be your friend... age difference doesn't matter.
laugh.gif
And I really want to meet Raff.

ets if we move before i pop, i'll be looking for someone to ride raff... for a few weeks. x

Re schools etc check out www.upmystreet.co.uk.
Sounds lovely, hope the move happens OK.
I'd suggest to look through the local schools prospectuses if you can find them online, (my daughter is in year 6 in September so been doing this). If you find one locally which has sport as a specialism I would say that would be your best option for him, even if it isn't the most local, as it will have received extra funding and have by far the best sports facilities. Also even if the school is 'full' it should be easier to get him in on appeal if sport is his strong point. However do check the commute to school is practical, I'm not sure at his age but it may have to be funded if more than a certain distance away because they can't provide locally.

hi, you'll be a mile or two from me, i'm just outside Long Sutton, but on the Gedney Broadgate side of the A17.
school hire - mine if you want, or there's one between where you'll be and mine.
instructors - me, Miller, or there's an AI in Fosdyke (about 15 mins away in horsebox) who has a small indoor school, and is very nice.
dentist - James Arkley, does an excellent job.
feed deliv - every Wednesday, free deliv, Moulton Pet Feeds, very efficient, nothing any trouble, they do rug cleaning, dog food, all horse feed, etc etc.
vets - i use Gibson and Lee, they are absolutely excellent.
farrier - i use someone from Kings Lynn, not sure if he'd go further than me but he might well.
pm me if you want to know anything else, or where to pop in to for a coffee! always nice to have someone to hack out with, too.
hacking's great, and there's a private track we can ride on (i have permission, i can ask nicely to add another one) across the fields from Gedney Broadgate to the lane i live on...!
hope that gives you a bit of reassurance that you aren't moving to a total desert!
oh, just remembered, someone's just moved there and put up new stables and a new arena, so they'll be very close to you, looks as if they have about 4 or 5 ponies and horses. so, all good!

Laughton Manor, Folkingham, nice friday evening jumping, unaff/aff dressage, also BSJA and clinics. Sissons Farm at Peakirk - Ann and Nick Harris very friendly, unaff SJ aff/unaff DR, also working hunter. Jumpcross at Wittering, near Peterborough.
We have a pony on loan at Lutton Marsh, near you, and come your way 2x week.
That Kerilli person is quite a friendly bod, won't go too far wrong under HER wing!!! (Shameless sucking up, I know!)
Welcome to Lincolnshire!

sorry for belated reply... i had to go to stupid hospital yesterday and they kept me in cos my waters were leaking... luckily the baby has a giant head which is now acting like a cork...
wink.gif

thank you for all your fab and friendly replies... it does make the move a smidge less scary... and i PROMISE to have a HHO BBQ or gettogether when we move in, to meet everyone. although the BBQ will have to be 100metres from the house... as it's thatched and apparently that's a conditon in the insurance...

Just seen this - just up the road Holbeach side of you - about 3 miles from Kerilli - drop us a PM and we'll have to meet up - we did the same as you.

Vet I use Gibson and Lee
Farrier - Glyn Trundle - who is the Kent Equestrian guy? Any good? someone asked my about him the other day!

Loads of shows - we'll point you in the right direction

I wish the forum had existed when I was up in Lincs, there are lots of you in my old area! My parents are still up there - 1 mile from the sea, nearest shops are in Holbeach. I used to get really lonely riding out on my own all the time - pony club and shows kept me sane!
