After having only owned George for 5mths I have decided to move yards, it has taken me quite a while to come to this decision, especially as I really liked the people at the yard, but things just weren't working out as i wanted for George. So at the end of October I will be on the move to a yard of only 9, a 60mx20m school, good hacking, and most importantly heaps of turnout and individual flexible care for each horse.

Great news, except I am terrified in case I've made the wrong decision, or in case George doesn't settle. I went up my yard today and told people i was going and they all seemed genuinely sad. How am I going to keep my doubts at bay for a month? When I first made the decision I was relieved but now I'm all at sea and confused

I recently moved ( a month ago!) Had our own land, did what I wanted when I wanted, land was sold due to many reasons, so have moved to a freinds yard! it is fantastic love it there! horses settled in immediately and are very happy, you and George will be fine, he will pick up you are happier and he will love the extra turnout, don't stress and enjoy it!

Trish,

We all know you have not been happy with the arrangements for George's t/o and I do not blame you - that is also a big priority for me and would certainly be a major factor if I had similar problems.

George will probably be fine - he is happy and confident with you and that will not change - he is an easy going laid back sort of chap.

Just look forward with no regrets - you will soon be moved and settled and posting happy things on here!!

oh chestnut cob if only I could afford to do what you suggest, but I'm afraid I can't! I think I am just a born worrier, so for the next month you will have to put up with me posting about my fears!

After reading your previous posts, it sounds like you have made the right decision for your boy. I know you have been worried about the limited turn out and also the small quantity of hay he has been having. He is such a lovely laid back chap and has obviously bonded with you, I am sure he will settle straight away -love his new found freedom and be very happy. Don't worry

I moved yards and I was worried too but it is the best thing I ever did. My horse settled in straight away and the people on the new yard were just as nice as those on the old yard. It does seem like a big step to take but really it isn't. You and George will both be fine I am sure and we will be getting lots of happy posts from you in a month's time!

Oh sorry St_Bernard, I know I know it's the right thing to do, I even made a list of the reasons I'm leaving and stuck it on the fridge!! Right must get into a positive frame of mind and then make a shopping list of the extra bits and bobs I will need at the new yard - ohhhh horsey shopping!

Thanks for your patience guys!

I haven't been to that many different yards in my years as a horse owner as have been lucky enough to find good, long term places but all I can say each time I did move yard, each one was always better than the last and never regretted it for one moment. Normally you move yards for a reason and its a well thought out decision and that why it normally works out (PS the nearer you get it actually gets exciting - wait and see)! Good luck
