Hi, I'm moving to Horsham from South Africa and I've always wanted a horse but they cost more than I make in one year here so I'm really hoping I can get one when I move.

Perhaps instead of getting your own horse you can find someone who needs help with theirs. I would suggest finding local stables and taking lessons, getting to know people and you may find someone who needs their horse ridden more often than they can do it themselves. That way you'd be with people who know the ropes and can also advise you. Good luck.

Depending on your previous experience and your working hours, you could look for a share. Networking through local yards or via small adds and face book groups.
But be warned. In the South East of England and within the commuter belt for London where I live, keeping a horse can cost a great deal. I suspect more than in South Africa. I have ridden out with RS escorts from South Africa who had had to leave their own horses back home.

When I first started looking out for a horse I was thinking of rehoming a pony from a local horse sanctuary, as rehoming very cheap, but the horses can sometimes be a bit problematic. In the end, I found my really lovely cob on Preloved but it was months before I found a horse that suited me. I also considered loaning a horse and sharing with a friend. Good luck :)
