I had 2 fits on wednesday night and the doctors have said I need to inform DVLA and i'll not be able to drive for a year.......

Aw you poor thing, I would hate that, I think we would have to move house as are literally in the middle of nowhere here. Are you ok though? Hope you are all better.

i'm not on any meds..... have never had a fit before......... Don't know what has caused me to fit but I have been very stressed and tired lately and felt a little under the weather a few days previous to fitting........ i'm feeling much better now apart from having a sore back from the lumbar puncture -grrrrrrrrrrr-
I'm just feeling sorry for myself I think

I'm sorry to hear that - my friend's mum was in this situation a few years ago, although at least she knew the cause of her fits, as she'd been epileptic all her life. We lived in a tiny village miles from the nearest town, and although luckily both her daughters went to school in the village, she found it very frustrating not being able to get anywhere beyond cycling distance. I hope you have lots of friends/a nice OH who will give you lots of lifts!

This is exactly what happened to my neighbour. Like you she'd never suffered before and was under alot of stress at the time. She went all weird and everything just went blank as she was driving round a round a bout. She's been fine since it happened but won't get her licence back until August.

I feel bad for you because I know what a total nightmare it will be. She had to go for all sorts of tests which came back clear, but they still stopped her from driving for a year.

Poor you ((((hugs))))

It must be awful, and very frustrating. I'm sure when you explain people will help you out.

Also, I hope you get the correct medication, and get better soon

hey, this happened to me about 12 years ago. randomly, for no apparent reason, i had three proper fits within two weeks. i was told the same as you... that i wasn't allowed to drive for a year.

but... it's only if they don't know the cause of the fitting... they eventually found out the cause of mine (pregnancy...)and i was allowed to drive... so, fingers crossed for you! hope they find out what's wrong. x

some people will have a seizure at some point in their lives and then never suffer another one again.Unfortunately the cause of the seizures are not always discovered. Stress is a big factor though in people who suffer with epilepsy. If it is epilepsy it can happen to anyone at any point in their life.I am sorry to hear you had a seizure and fingers crossed they will discover the reasons behind yours and be able to sort you out to either prevent you having another fit or else keep them under control with medication.

This is exactly what happened to my housemate in February. She was actually driving when she fitted, and luckily her passenger managed to steer the car over and put handbrake on. She had had a fit previously when travelling in Zimbabwe, but as she doesn't remember what happened, she didn't really think anything of it until she had another. She went for various tests over the past few months, and no-one could really give an explanation. The specialist eventually came to the conclusion that she has a very mild form of epilepsy - there is no point giving her medication, as she may never have another seizure, but she is rather buggered in terms of driving!

Hope you feel better soon, and good luck in finding out what caused it!

Oh no! It happened to me in my first week of uni in 2007, I had a fit and then couldn't drive for a year. My horse had to go home cos I couldn't get to the yard and I was stranded at a very rural uni. Luckily I have an amazing friend who very quickly learnt to drive and became my personal taxi

.

I feel so sorry for you because I know how awful it is. They never found the cause of my fits so I just hope it doesn't happen again, I kept thinking I'd get to 11 months and it would happen again. I've been driving again since october and I did my trailer test in january so I'm making the most of it.

I hope you've got supportive friends and family who'll help you get around and about. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that it was a one off and you'll be back on the road next year xx
