I've been told I'm obsessed with my mares weight haha :)

She was a little on the lean side before the snow, which was a little under how I wanted her to go into spring but now she has ballooned (can still feel ribs)

So in lightweight in this mild weather, cutting down on her hard feed and changing her back to hay from haylage

Everytime I'm there I'm checking her weight... Feeling with my hands for ribs and fats pads

Do you think I'm obsessed??

Possibly a little bit if you are checking her weight thoroughly everyday! Just checking once a week would be enough :) but it's good your on top of her weight and keeping a close eye!

Errrr yes!
If you had left her on the slightly leaner side then you wouldn't have to be trying to get her to loose weight now!

Unless horse is particularly fat or skinny or is a bit too lean going into winter or too fat going into spring I wouldn't keep changing my management.

Depends on the horse :)

One of mine I have to keep a close eye on and adjust feed to suit as she can lose weight very quickly, equally she can quickly look like a barrage ballon. Also gets spasmodic colic if grass/hay too new/rich.

One did follow that horse, but is now holding weight okay. Still check her daily.

One just has a general eye on that he's not getting fat. A ten year old good-doing cob who was (medically) retired last year.

One is a foal, so he just has the usual daily check as he can appear to change shape overnight

We used to weightape once a week and record it, but out of the habit now.

Kizmund I didnt change her management apart from a few days enforced no turn out due to snow and in this time just eating rich haylage she gained the weight I didnt really want on

Which is why I now have to get her to lose it again :/

Being this horses previous owner I can say I'd rather you were paranoid and were on top of her weight than her being left to get obese :p
Will Pm you :)

Don't worry, I get a bit obsessive about my TB's weight. I'm constantly checking her and weigh tape her once a week as a minimum :o:rolleyes:
