I'm very happy with my supplier..... Have used them for years.... Just want to make sure this years price increase isn't out of the ordinary .... Who are people using and how much are you paying?

My haylage supplier does not seem to be greedy- has only put their bales up by a couple of pounds to £35, they are large square bales and lovely quality. Re hay, i purchased some lovely meadow hay off the field last year for £2.50 a bale!! which last me just short of a year- haven't decided what i'm going to do this year or where i'm going to get it from!...

Recently had to buy some of last years hay for my youngster and it was £7 a bale!- the prices go up but they will never go down again when there is an abundance of it in the future!

(I'm in Sussex)

I am paying 5.80 for 40kg bales of good haylage. Last year they were 5.50 and we paid for delivery which made them cost 5.80. This year delivery is free so in fact I am paying the same price. It is really nice haylage. Not that cheap but nice quality and easy to store and handle so worth it for my 2. I am in Surrey but my supplier brings them from Sussex.

my haylage (big round bales delivered) went up from £20 to £25 - still very reasonable and seemed to be less than anyone else was paying locally - my supplier said he wanted long term customers and therefore didnt want to put up price too much.

Sold some of my small bales hay off field for £3.50 delivered - that seems to be cheapest round our way (somerset) - have a friend selling small bale haylage for 4.50 collected.

Hope that helps, I think we are all slighly obsessed with the price at the moment although Somerset seems to be getting a couple of vey good cuts of hay with a local farmer saying he got 3x as much this year as last !!!!

20Kg haylage is £6.50 (moved horses onto hay now) - Kelsall Hill Farm
Bale of good quality hay is £3.50 plus free delivery - local farmer

From different suppliers though :)

Can you PM me the name of your supplier? I am also in Surrey and that sounds like a good price!

It was generally £5-6 a (small) bale round us (south Wiltshire) last year - I think similar this year.

Though we just bought ours in from the field next to our horses for veeeeery cheap (we hauled it over the fence ourselves, though will be charging a small handling fee for this anyway when charging our livery).

I'd be feeling jammy but mine can't eat hay anyway, so she's always expensive

I have just got some hay for £3.25 a bale off eBay in Staffs! I had to collect it but it was only 3 miles up the road! My yard does big bales of haylage for £25 but I wanted some hay in reserve for it it snows again and they are in during the day.

There are hay bales advertised in Ewhurst Surrey at the moment for £6.50 but no idea on size or quality as only see the ad when driving past!

Makes me almost wish I was back in the UK. YO pays over 90 euro for each huge square bale of haylage and they are delivered in bulk! Not sure what she pays for hay as I am the only one out of 40 liveries that uses the hay (horse allergic to haylage) so she only buys the small bales.

£3.50 a bale for 200 - little bales - but big little ones that are stuffed full , and very good quality - we're in lincolnshire and had been quoted £5.00 a bale before we found this.
