I'm. Sat in A&E. And a lesson for ALL

I done my back in about 3 years ago. i was stood upright shaking slice of straw. cue me hitting deck ambulance called and morphine and a cocktail of drugs for 6 weeks. They reckon its due to many falls etc over years and back is weak now :( But get better soon everyone x

I've lost count if the amount of times I've injuryed my self when riding or from being with horses.
have broken toes dislocated thumbs, fractured my elbow after coming off a race horse, broken tip of my finger and dislocated my knee cap once. then to top it off I managed to break three ribs by being crushed in a stable by a horse.
most of these I did not go to a&e till I got to the point things weren't working right and it was affecting me doing the horses. We all must be tough cookies to plough on and grin and bear it.

Hope you get better soon.

about fifteen years ago in the dead of winter my dad gave me a leg up and threw me clean over (doesnt know his own strength!) anyway as I hit the deck hands first my mare turned to look to see what the flip I was doing down there and stood metal shoe and all right on the tip of my index finger. It was squashed flat but my hands were so cold I didnt feel ay pain whatsoever until I had ridden back and got into my nice warm car.
How I drove home with the pain in my entire arm is a mystery.
Being me the tuff nut I am and despite the pain that was knocking me out and making me nauseous and never having broken a bone before (or since) I took some paracetmol and ignored it for two weeks when it decided to die and go brown at the end from the knuckle forwards.

A friend mum (not my parents of course who obviously didnt seem to care that their 17 year olds finger was withering on the branch) frog marched me to the gp, who nearly fell off his chair backwards and sent me for immediate plastic surgery, the bone was snapped clean accross. I nearly lost my finger because I manned up! I still cant feel it though even after all these years! LOL I hope you are better soon!

Don't, looking at 11th surgery in 10 years in a week, that will be number 3 this year! Not fair, want to enjoy my horses not look at them in field. I used to do judo to pretty reasonable level, accounts for most surgeries I've had (old injuries, 4 on one shoulder alone). Despite regular falls I've never had a major injury due to the horses though (rapidly touching desk). Have dislocated shoulder on mat, someone put it back & I carried on, hit the mat so hard I couldn't move my legs for 10 mins, but couldn't get help as I was running mat, but one I remember is breaking my ribs whilst training in Japan (fighting Dutch girl who had been picking on light weight low grade Japanese ladies - so someone had to step in, even though I was lightweight myself). One throw I attempted, she resisted, pop went the ribs. Finished fight in draw (giving away about 30kg & 15 years - I was veteran age), got appreciation from people running mat, Dutch girl got sent to mans mat for rest of her stay where I later heard her complaining they were picking on her....2 Weeks of training (no throwing - they knew I'd busted the ribs), followed by long plane journey home. Ribs seriously painful so went to local A&E to get checked. Triage nurse told me unlikely I'd broken them, 4 hour wait so may as well go home. Ignored her & waited. Doc begrudgingly sent me for xray, massive change in attitude when it came back, couldn't do enough for me. Funnily enough they were broken.

Then there was a friend, ironically she is a paramedic, doing a contest. One point her face hit mat, not unusual. At the end of the day (hours later), she blew her nose & one side puffed up suddenly (spilt second). I persuaded her to go to same A&E as above, no xray told probably infection was fine. She turned up to work at different hospital next day, they insisted on xray, she had fractured her cheek bone. Reasons like this are very good ones not to go there if you have any option whatsoever....

Went over my ankle running a 10k at the beginning of July. I could put weight on it so just assumed it was fine and walked the rest of the race (I was getting that finisher's mug). My friend we were staying with is a paramedic and since I could walk on it her advice was pack of peas and elevate it.
Went to work the next day and since it was like a tennis ball my work mates advised I should get it checked. Wasn't going to as hate sitting around hospitals but took their advice and the minor injury clinic confirmed it was fractured. Totally wan't expecting that! Was a simple one so only had a cast for 3 days until I went to Orthopaedics then had a moon boot for 6 weeks. Still not running yet but back riding which I missed more anyway ;)

Well, i'm reading all your stories because i'm off work with a broken finger ( right hand, ring) Yes i'm right handed. BUT i didn't come off, thanks to my gel out seat saver and my super grip roeckl gloves ( maybe if they hadn't have gripped so well i wouldn't have broken my finger ??) but i would i have come off had i not been wearing them ?? mmm. I'm on weeek 2 of 5 signed off, soo bored, work has put me on half pay ( strongly objecting to that one ) so can't even buy loads of c**p off ebay ! although it's not actually stopping me yet. Anyone else bored on sick leave ?

For those of you who thing you are tough nuts with your injuries - wait till you are in your 60's and find that you can no longer do what you'dd like to do as the past injuries healed badly catch up on you.

I have a high pain thresh-hold and am suffering greatly now with back and general joint pain.

If you fall, get kicked or go black and blue or hurt - GO TO A & E - the horrible wait for a few hours is worth it - the pain decades later is not!
