I'm seeing a potential share horse today - Wish me luck!

As most of you know I've been looking for a share horse for months now, after being messed around by sellers (lying, ignoring calls etc) I gave up. Only to find a perfect horse 5 minutes down the road (does this seem to be a regular thing on the forum?) Anywho, I'm going to see him at 11.30 and I'm so excited.

Wish me luck, and throw in some tips if you're feeling generous!

I'd say just be honest about your capabilities and what you're looking for, ask lots of questions, and don't be intimidated.

I have, I've got almost 2 pages!

I'm taking my sister, I can bike there but I'm not entirely sure on the way yet so she said she'd drive me. She knows nothing about horses though ;)

Good luck feel excited for you! I really hope it goes well as I have been messed around too many times in the past, even put my young kids on ponies "that have never done that before" as they have been dumped in the school!

Good that its local as hopefully someone will know of the horse, you can always go away and have a think and let them know as soon as. Hope it works out and of course let us know. Fingers crossed

I know how you feel, I got messed around so much by the last owner I spoke to, lots of lies, not answering her phone etc. Did you find a horse in the end?

I'm going to suggest a trail period, as it's the first time they've shared, to see whether they like me, I'm suitable and whether I feel comfortable.
 
So, where do I start?

I went there, met the horse and owners, loved them and loved him. Watched the daughter ride then got on myself - absolutely gorgeous ride, very smooth and well mannered. But we were trotting along and at a corner the horse spooked, I came flying off, hit my already injured back (no body protector tut tut), hit my head, then got trodden on.

6 hours in hospital later and I have a fractured wrist, possible broken collarbone (I have promenent bones so it isn't certain yet), severely swollen shoulder/back and concussion.

So all in all, it went well.
 
B!00dy he!! lass! That just wasn't fair :(.

I hope it's all less severe than feared.

As to giving up, well, up to you of course, but if you think it's just a luck thing, hm, I'm still going strong :D. Spent half an hour just grooming the Dizzy one today and it was bliss, put all my angst firmly where it belonged :D

blooming heck I was wondering how you were getting on..that is just awful! Suppose it hasnt done that before(sarcasm sorry).Why cant people be honest as its not good for the horse and especially for the rider. It could be coincidental but only someone that knows the horse would know that.

Well I hope you heal up fast and what a shame. Blooming nuisance.

The owners of the horse probably feel awful about it. I would if my horse did that.

When you feel up to it, give them a ring to let them know you are ok and smile about it. :) If you are nice about it, even if nothing comes of this one, they may put you on to someone else.

If it was me I would go back with arm in plaster and help out with other stuff, and then next time you ride, take it more slowly. I have had sharers in the past who literally knocked on the door and asked to help out. They werent necessarily ready to get on the horses straight away but with a bit of help they did.
 
Oh the owners felt awful I think, I sent them a quick message to let them know I was fine, thanked them for the oppurtunity and wished them the best of luck :)
