my mare has been off since aug 2010 after damaging her ddft. also daughters damaged her stifle so both have been on restricted turnout and controlled exercise starting at 5 mins daily now up to 50 a day in walk.. Today was our first trot, only a few strides slightly up hill and both felt wonderful ,were really sensible and i feel on cloud 9.

i know we have a long way to go and were not out of the woods but there have been a lot of tears, stress and frustration over the last few months and im just enjoying the feeling and had to share.

totally embarrassed my daughter by telling everyone i passed weve had our first trot. no doubt will confirm my status as that mad horsey woman..

Join the clan girl, join the clan:D:D:D:DAnd am delighted for you and your daughter, nice to see, that people take joy in short steps with their horses and many more happy trots:D:D:D:D:D:D

Been there, done that and know very much how you feel. Great isnt it?? Enjoy and wait til you have your first canter - could say that its better than something else but better not, might get an infraction!! xx

Oh I'm delighted for you!! My guy has been off for 9 months for the same injury. i am working him in walk and had trotted but felt bit off so back to walking. Can I ask how long and how you built up to trot? Fantastic day for you!!

fast filly ..on vet advice we started at 5 minutes daily which we did in hand ,then started under saddle at 20 minutes a day. we have followed it religiously at least 5 days out of 7 despite daughters a levels. we increased it by 5 minutes a week and hope to be up to i hr in total with gradual increase in trot up to 10 minutes in an hours ride, but am going very slowly and keeping everything crossed. then back to newmarket for scans

it has been hard work ,not with my girl who is very sensible but daughters horse is highly strung and likes to bounce on the spot so a small dose of sedalin has come in handy.

thank you all ,the small things can mean so much and good luck to those of you doing similar.i have taken a lot from others going through similar ..
