It was very quiet on the yard yesterday, I was grooming Ned and the YO (his owner) was mucking out the school. I'm rather shy and quiet, I don't like asking for things and feel very uncomfortable doing so.
I plucked up the courage and just asked "Would you consider loaning Ned to me?"
I had accidently asked to buy him last year (I posted on facebook that I wished he was my horse and she saw) but she politely turned me down, saying that she loved him too, but I would be her first choice if she did sell.

To my surprise she said yes!! I'm so happy :D I haven't loaned a pony since I was 6 and I REALLY missed it!
It'll give me a chance to work properly on the advice I have been given on here, since before it was impossible, as I had to do whatever the rest of the group were doing.

The only problem is, I must pass my driving test first. I'm taking the test in March, so I hope to pass then and have Ned by April!

I hope to have him hacking out alone, going in the trailer, schooling and jumping properly and a few other things too.
We'll both be learning together, but I have patience and he's willing to learn.

My ultimate goal? Get 1st a show jumping class and do my favourite hack alone :D
Wheeeeeee!

Yay!!! Well done you!!! :)

Always think "Don't ask, you don't get" ;)

Look forward to hearing how you get on together! :)

DD aka a lurker :)

Congratulations! If you don't ask you don't get! Good luck with Ned and I hope you achieve your goals with him.

Thank you :D
I got him walking around the show field in-hand a week or so ago, which was once impossible. Yesterday I got him walking the opposite direction around the school to the rest of the horses, before he'd just rear, spin and take me with the others anyway!

The thing that REALLY needs work is his jumping. He's now clearing fences and not plowing through, but he's still going at them full blast. He took a double as a bounce a few weeks ago :O I've come to the conclusion that setting up some jumps and working him around them would be the best idea.

It'll be hard, but we've already come a long way, I know we can go further :D

EDIT: Wow! I had a lot of replies while typing this, haha!
Thanks everyone :)
Yea, I'll have a proper sit down with his owner and go through everything in detail when I pass my test :)

Thanks :D I REALLY hope I pass first time, my instructor said I could have passed with the drive I did today, so here's hoping! I hate roundabouts, but I live in Milton Keynes...the city of roundabouts! I'll have to do some doubles too D: Eek!

ooh congratulations and good luck with driving test! Just treat it as another lesson, no pressure, it's not an examiner just a different instructor :)

My driving instructor said he'll come with me if I want and I think I do! I don't like being alone with someone I don't know, so even though he wouldn't be allowed to say anything, he's a very calming person. I just hope they don't mind me talking to myself! In my lessons I find myself giving a running commentary!

What a lovely happy post:D Lots for you to look forward to.

My daughter used to talk to herself all the time when driving and provided a lot of entertainment for her Dad, myself and her driving instructor. She also does it riding xc:D

Aww congrats!! So exciting getting a new horsey on loan :D best of luck with the driving test and teaching him new things, sounds like youre well on the road to success! x

I talked to myself in mine and it didn't seem to hurt me. :)

Ah well done!! my first horse i had on loan satyed with me 20 years she was 33 when i lost her, and the lady that i had her from bred and gave me my current horse who is now rising 18!! both horses of a life time and i guess ill never find the words to thank chris x all she ever says is that she always knows were the horses are, that they are looked after and that i will keep them.

GOOD LUCK with the driving n hope you enjoy getting to your goals x

Oh yey. At my old riding school alot of the non ploddy horses would go out on loan quickly but stay on site in a seperate block and be used in the school for the more experienced riders like a part loan type thing, worked really well for those learning about having their first horse

First of all congratulations about Ned!! I bet you are over the moon :)

With regards to driving, I would DEFINITELY get your instructor to come with you - you seem to have the same attitude to driving as I did (hate being alone with strangers/not liking roundabouts/talking to yourself!) and I had to do my practical three times. The first two, it was just me and the examiner - the third time I asked my instructor to come with me and somehow I just felt SO much more relaxed. My third test was also the only one where I plucked up the nerve to talk to myself throughout - who cares if they think you're nuts, they'll never see you again! :P

Best of luck!

Thanks everyone :D

I just can't wait! Thankfully, I'm pretty good at maneuvers! It's just those bloomin' roundabouts! Still, on the route I have to drive, there's 15+, so I get good practice :D

What an incentive to pass your test ! I'm in Mk to so let me know when your test is and I'll drive in front clearing the roads for you - work van so I can bash it up all I want !
