Warning - very self indulgent!!!!
We took twigs to the gg centre today to meet up with my friend rachel who was riding archie.
Warmed up fairly well although twigs was on her toes for a while due to some horses being on the gallops that she could see. She felt fantastic and for a tb she has a very 'warmblood' trot ( were still working on the canter its still very babyish ssshhhhhh!)
So far with twigs we have been trtting and very occasionally cantering over single fences and a few fillers. After reading up on my gridwork book last night we were feeling all inspired so first set up some combinations with just the poles on the ground to do in trot and canter and then built up from there. Twiggy ended up doing trebles with fillers by the end of it!
Mum was commenting on how much better it got her technique with her hindlegs too so I think gridwork is the thing to play with before the fences start going up and she felt lovely and confident and I think shes more than ready for some clear round and novice classes (a show atmosphere might be a different matter though!)
Afterwards we went on to the gallops with rachel and archie. Once round in walk, once in trot and once cantering side by side. There was one flooded corner which twigs had great fun cantering and trotting through so I wont feel as aprehensive introducing water on her first cross country school!
Bad points: None really although she was a pig to load. She'll go halfway up the ramp so her hindlegs are just off it and plant herself - no fear in her eyes or anything just stubborn, then all of a sudden she will just walk in of her own accord although sometimes it can take 20 mins so if anyones got any tips they would be much apprecited!
Anyway, sorry for the long boring read - I'm just a very proud mummy today!
