I've just had the most awful phone call and am sat here sick with worry.
Sidney came in from the field last night with a cut to his front leg about 2 inches above his knee. Hubby cleaned the wound up and since the vet was coming first thing this morning anyway, and on the advice of the YO, we left it.
The vet has been and stitched him up but she's seriously not happy and thinks he might have fractured his leg. They're coming back with a portable xray asap. I feel absolutely sick.
Hubby is at the yard with him as he was off work today and I'm going as soon as they know what time they're coming back.
Having never had a horse beofre and not having dealt with this I've got all sorts of horrors running through my mind. Really after a hug and some positive vibes that its not as bad as the vet fears it might be.

Its very natural to be feeling and thinking how you are. Its easier said than done but try to stay positive. The first time i witnessed anything like this with Jed i felt sick and couldnt stop crying.

Please keep us posted and big {{{hugs}}} and healing {{{vibes}}} for your horse.xx

Big hug and remember fractures are definitely not the death sentence they once were.

In fact they're often now considered a better injury than a tendon/ligament type injury.

So fingers crossed and even if the vets fears prove correct there's a lot of option available.

Go have a hot mug of tea and try not to panic. Although I know that's a lot easier said than done.

Do let us know the outcome to.

Sending hugs! My boy has been on box rest since October with a fracture & is going to be able to start going out in the field in 3 weeks time - yay! Don't despair, fractures often do heal with the right treatment.

Huge ((((((((Hugs))))))) and positive vibes sent tou you.

I know it will be little or no consolation to you at the moment but my TB has suffered two fractures during his life (one hock, one shoulder) and at the grand old age of 23 he is still being ridden and going strong.

Take care and please keep us updated xx

{{{ GOOD VIBES}}} Try and stay positive, and calm. Easier said than done i know. Hope its only a cut and nothing more serious.

{{{{{positive vibes}}}}}} on their way! I hope he's ok. It's pretty scary when things like that happen - my horse broke his splint bone in the field - I had only had him a day, at the time...

He's fine now though

Fingers crossed xx

I went through the exact same thing the year before last with mine.

He came in with quite an unimpressive looking cut about 2 inches above his front knee cap but poking at it showed it was quite deep.

The vet came straight out and due to the location, brought x ray equipment with him.

I remember so vividly sitting in his stable, crying my eyes out.

Luckily for us, there was no fracture although it had penetrated the tendon sheath and he had full leg bandaging from his elbow to coronet band.

Just remember, fractures arent the death sentence they used to be.

Sending lots of vibes and keep us updated.

A horse at my yard had exaclty the same thing this time last week, and they x rayed it but couldnt see a lot so are coming out again today to try and confirm fracture/no fracture.
poor horse has been in a full hoof-elbow bandage+splint now for a week.

seems to be a lot around atm

fingers x'ed xx
