I ride for a woman about 15mins away from me, who has four horses, two 4yos, a 10yo and a 12yo. She had an op about a year ago and has not got back into the competition world yet, I agreed to exercise them and mess about with them in my free time because she pays me and I'm not all that busy in the summer times. There are also three liveries at her yard, who have, since her operation last year had the run of the mill so to speak, as the owner hasnt been able to keep an eye on things.
I'm up there a fair bit, and I notice little things, some bigger than others, stuff going missing, feeds from her horses going quicker than what U am feeding etc etc.
Today I was up a lot earlier than I ever usually am, to ride the youngster in the indoor as it was very windy. First off I caught them out taking feed from her bins- not fair at all, a total piss take. I carried on, grabbed his tack from out of the tack room and noticed his bit was warm and slimey- one of liveries had been using his tack- again, out of order- didn't even rinse the bit off which is minging and pissed me off a bit more.
I then noticed a car pulling into yard- I asked them if they were lost- "No, I come every monday to hack out with * on Eny"- the livery owner's horse. I havnt been riding him this summer as he tends to go quite pottery on the hard ground- yet this woman had been inviting her friend up to hack him out without asking the owners permission, and without telling me- so for all she knows he could have been ridden twice a day. I feel so annoyed about it- would it be so terrible telling tales to yard owner about it? If someone was riding my horse without me knowing I know I would like to be told.

That is appalling that she has been riding the YO horse without her permission!!! I've had it done to me, and I'm not good with being confrontational but my god it never happened again. How dare they, that is TOTALLY out of order. Lock on feed bins if poss?

If the owner really doesn't know, you MUST tell her. I bet she'll be spitting blood. Bloody people. Poor horse

I think I would be absolutely livid if someone rode my horse without my permission!! Sounds a bit as though while the cats away the mice are having a great time. Sounds like a tactful word is in order

Thats disgusting! What horrible, horrible people. For a start nicking feed is pretty much theft, but to ride her horse?! Its not telling tales. She should know, then its up to her how to deal with it.

Well yes I think I will go up in the morning, I was going up there today but she must have been out. Its so bad, I could never imagine riding anyone else's horse without their permission, god I could have had him competition fit or anything and those idiots were riding him. Made me really mad because I love riding him out, he is such an angel, but me and YO made the joint decision not to ride him because we didn't want him to go lame, and then this eejit comes along

Def talk to YO about it, the way they are behaving is outrageous.

I would be absolutely furious if somebody rode my horse without permission!

Tell her everything you saw, and who was doing what. She can then decide what action she can take, if any. If I were in her shoes the lot of them would be out of my yard by the end of the week!

OMG - what would happen if they had an accident whilst out on her horse? How totally irresponsible. Are they children or something? Don't tell me these are adult liveries??

Idiots that give liveries a bad name.

Tell the YO, also see if you can get some evidence, use chalk to mark the level of feed etc.

That is pretty appalling - I'd tell her - esp since she is liable for whoever is riding her horse whether she has asked them to or not. What an unfair thing to do

I would be absolutely furious if I was the YO.

As suggested earlier, tell her personally as soon as possible.

Please, would you be able to keep us updated as to what happens?
