I'm sorry but Showjumping just isn't a spectator sport.

I think part of the trouble is there's so many good horses that all look fairly similar with similar styles of jumping and names that are often uninteresting, there just aren't the equine personalities that were around years ago. There used to be so many more different types of horse, with more memorable names that tended to stay with the same rider, we just don't have that anymore.

I like watching the show jumping-can't bear watching dressage or eventing (these days, used to like it) and don't really enjoy other sports on the TV. I do agree more could be done to make it interesting but TV companies won't do that unless they get the viewing figures I guess.
I have to say though, that while I used to love say the Hickstead Derby and watch it religiously, the last few years I have found it less interesting. Too many big riders keeping their horses out of it, too many riders and horses we don't know. Fewer 'fun' classes televised at say Olympia than there used to be as well seemingly. It always did take a fan to see through a large GP class, but the chases etc are good fun.
