For heavens sake why doesnt this seller fatten the poor thing up himself, give it some tlc for a bit and then sell it when it doesnt look like a drowned rat.

It just annoys me when they are happy to buy and sell no matter what state they are in - just pass the problem on to someone else. It wouldnt take much time and feed to get his looking good for a sale.

And £495?! Are you insane!!

Paint me proud I really think I need to get you blocked on dragon driving it not good for you I have told you before.

We could always form a syndicate...buy one or two cheap horses from dragon driving each year between us and build them up, train them and then donate them to Riding For The Disabled:D

I wonder would that be feasible in real life?

We could make a shortlist each year and then hold a poll based on it. Or just pick one the right size for whatever centre wanted it and try not to think about the rest of the poor beasties:(

I think you just have to go for one of two as they come up, if they looks like a sad case we'll have them!

Oh God, I often look at Dragon Driving. There are so many I would just love to turn up with a lorry for, bring them home and give them lots of TLC, and yes, I know you should never buy a horse because you feel sorry for it!

Couldn't wait until end of year, they'd have been re advertised on that site around ten times in a 12 month period...

Start a thread arizhan! I'll chip in something, or offer transport.

It's really sad you just look at them and know that lots of them could be little stars if they got a lucky break and that's what you have to hope about this one he's for sale he has a chance to get lucky.

Do you think enough people would be interested? Even if we just helped one a year it would be something...I will go post a thread and see if anyone else wants in:)

Rescue centres are full, moneys short, horses end up like this lad.

What's a one off £10? Goes to a good cause and gives the animal a job. No doubt, tin hats will be needed!

Call my cynical, but I think they keep them looking poor, so people feel sorry for them and 'rescue' them.

Not condoning this btw, as I think it's discusting and probably a good job I don't have a trailer or I'd have a field full of the poor things :o

The trouble is that often by buying these poor specimens then you are simply opening up a space for the seller to fill with another pony, and if they are selling they are often just encouraged and you are effectively fuelling the market in poor quality and neglected ponies. :(

The other thing to consider is that they may be totally unsuitable for an RDA centre once they have been fed up and may have potential health problems with worm damage etc, so what happens then?

Sorry to be a killjoy, but there are so many horses and ponies out there that looking for good homes that are fewer and farther between, unless you can truly
guarantee a home it is a bit risky imo.

Have started a thread...the ongoing care and maintenance would be the big costs. Insurance, livery, vaccinations, farrier, worming, tack, schooling, feed...have I left anything out?

Basically we'd need a group of people willing to sponsor the horse from start to finish and an agreement with a Riding For Disabled centre before hand.

Very good points...need vetting and would have to arrange that a centre would want it first. So basically would be one that the centre liked the look of.
