If Henry might be at least part Field Spaniel?

He certainly matches this description pretty well http://www.fieldspanielsociety.co.uk/breedIntroduction.htm

I'm just curious about what he is, he just seems so big compared to many of the other Cockers we meet out and about.

Here is a Field Spaniel

Just idle speculation, I'd really love to know one day though. How much are DNA tests?

He didn't look big next to Harvey at the meet up, did he? Longer perhaps, but certainly not taller.

Interesting though. Whatever he is, he's a smasher! ;)

He didn't, but often he looks huge compared to other cockers - maybe we have midget cockers here in Norfolk:D

BTW, if you ever want him you can have him, he decided that recalling to the whistle and retrieving was just so old hat today, and I ended up wading into a river to get him (that shocked him)

PMSL! I bet that shocked him too! :)

Harvey is big as well, compared to some. I think you'll find it's simply because ours are show bred Cockers. The working strain are much, much smaller with very dainty heads.

It's just come to me that if he were to be a Field x Cocker I would be able to call him a Focker... which is only one letter shy of what I was calling him yesterday...:D

I doubt it, if you look at all the different shapes and sizes and colours, of say, sheps, just because they don't mean the exact standard, doesn't mean they are pure bred.
Most of the cockers I see here would look a lot like Henry.

Depends on the line, ours are all fairly standard Cocker sized, one of them went to Crufts he must be the same size as a Show Cocker otherwise he wouldn't have matched the breed description.
You get tiny ones and you get huge ones, it depends on the luck of the draw and what's fashionable at the time.

I would say Henry is a fairly standard Show Cocker TBH Han, he didn't seem particularly big to me when I met him. I think their tails can make a huge difference to what size they look too, Otto can look massive next to a similar sized, docked Springer, purely because of his huge ridiculous tail! :D

Fields are a fair bit larger than a Cocker, both in size and build, and I wouldn't say Henry was closer to that size than that of a Cocker.

Plus, most Spaniels were originally typed (Springer, Cocker, etc) according to size, so you could have several types in one litter. Essentially they are all the same dog, so it's not surprising you get some 'throwbacks' that look more like another type of Spaniel :D
