I'm Too Old For This, Got Chucked Off Today

a) you're not defeated;
b) there is no harm in saying that you want something different.

Warm bath with Radox for the aches.
Arnica for the bruises.
Chocolate for the soul.

Edited to add: just watch it with the head bash and the back bash - took me two days to get to A&E, where it turned out I had a compression fracture at L2. Just take it easy and make sure you have someone with you.

As ever Mrs Mozart speaks good sense, especially the watching for your head injury. I would ask OH to keep an eye on you. Many years ago, I too am an oldie, I had a fairly painless fall but banged my head. Ended up talking gibberish ( more so than usual) and thinking I was speaking sense, taken to hospital and had concussion.
Also add some Dettol if you have it to your bath, it works wonders on aches and pains.

Are you ok today OP?

Thanks again for all the replies,

Feeling less painful as the day is going on, it's getting a little easier, although i've got a pulled muscle in the back of my leg which yesterday i didn't even notice but i can manage that, its the back pain that's the worst, right in the coxic (sp), i feel like i've had a good hard kick up the butt :D

I hope to feel ok to get back on her Tuesday on my day off, otherwise the longer i leave it the worse it will be, so can't wait for Tuesday NOT !!

Please lunge the legs off it first and have someone else there with you. She will of had a couple of days off by then. Really hope you feel better soon. You are a very brave lady to get back on.

Hope you are feeling better soon.

You don't say whereabouts you are in the country on your profile, but have you tried looking for a hacking buddy while you get your confidence back? You never know there might be someone else on here who lives fairly close who might like someone to hack out with.

I had a fall five years ago and hit my head and shoulder but didn't break the hat, got up and got back on. Nine months later I go to see the doctor because of constant headaches, end up having an MRI and find out I fractured my skull and shoulder. Please get it checked out just in case.

I'm in Essex Shazzababs but kind of in the middle of no-where, no yards very close to me at all, hubby says he'll walk out with me on Tuesday when he gets in from work and i'm going to get him to have me on lead rope incase she trys one on me again, i don't care if I look like a divvy i'm not risking it again for a while .

Mrs M I do have a seat saver somewhere, i'l have to dig that out of the tack box, great idea thanks.

Ouch !! you poor thing, it's quite eye opening when you hear of all the other injuries people suffer, we must be mad !

So true Foxhunter, someone would make a fortune, if they design something that let us float to said ground.:D:D:D:D:D

lol when I used to hack my last horse I would hack alone and phone a friend to say I was going out, she always asked if I had packed my parachute (she knew my horse well):D

There is no shame in deciding enough is enough. I got rid of a horse that was not what I wanted and too stupid
I now have a lovely young WB and as soon as my ankle is fixed I will be happy as larry, although fairly young and green he is an absolute darling!!

In hindsight I wished I had given other horse away a lot sooner as I now realise what owning a NICE horse should be like

The actual fall was quite funny. My daughter had gone on holiday and I decided to exercise her horse (an ex racehorse) well it went fine in the school and my friend asked if I wanted to try a walk and trot in the fields, so I said yes. Walk and trot were lovely and I was feeling really confident (idiot!!)- decided to try a few strides of canter - not a good idea. As I am quite ancient my style of riding is that I don't sit to canter I go into racing style, well I think you get the idea, the horse thought it was back racing, I couldn't stop the thing and we were heading towards the fence. I had this vision of coming through the fence in three slices - cartoon style, my stirrups were too long to jump and I wasn't sure if it would. So I made the decision to go for the 'inelegant flying dismount'!!

Well there was I, face down in the mud, laughing myself silly, the horse walked over to me and looked at me as if to say 'what you doing down there you stupid woman'. My friend was white as a sheet thinking I had killed myself.

But I just got back on and suffered the next day when all my muscles decided that I was too old for this lark. Mind you I do realise that I was very lucky - it could have been a lot more serious. To this day my daughter has never let me forget it.

:) :) :)
