Every time I see a nice suitable dog on the web for rehoming I get beaten to it ! Just missed out on a lovely corgi cross girl, right age, seemed like right temperament etc. but other people obviously thought the same. The problem dogs always seem to hang about, but Im not up for another known problem Im afraid. Friends have found a beautiful cocker who has now been with them a week and is so beautifully behaved and loving that they know if she ever goes missing she will be hiding at home with me :D
 
Do you know what breed you want? If so, put your name down with breed rescue. Or The Cinnamon Trust who arrange care for pets when owner is hospitalised or passes away?
Or go in person to your local rescues and get known by the staff, you will be the one to pop into their minds when a suitable dog comes in
 
Agree with Jill. Get your name down with either breed rescue or even at your local rescue centre, get a homecheck done and then have them contact you the minute a suitable dog turns up.

Are you after a specific breed or just a smallish dog with no issues?
 
I have my name down with a couple of rescues already. Looking for something that will get on with my old lad, about 6 upwards and happy not to walk for miles every day ! If I stop looking something will probably turn up !

There are plenty of ex puppy farm Cavaliers around - easy going, cheerful and great fun, don't need loads of exercise, to get on with a male dog maybe a spayed female would be an idea. Don't be put off by possible health problems, they more than make up for them and I'm on my fourth now. All have had a minor heart murmur, none have needed medication, even one poor little girl who had had a particularly hard time. Look on Cavalier Rescue for your area http://www.thecavalierclub.co.uk/rescue/regresc.html. There are lots of rehoming charities too
 
Have you seen the post about this lovely sounding Greyhound bitch looking for a home on Kimberleigh's thread?

"She was used to being in a kennel and is clean/quiet in there, but we have had her living in the house for the 4 months we've had her and she hasn't put a paw wrong! No accidents, no chewing, no barking, no separation anxiety.
She gets on with all dogs and bitches, and is amazingly wonderful with kids from tiny babies through toddlers through older ones!
She travels well in the car and walks like an angel on the lead.
We are happy to have her speyed before she leaves if thats preferred but if new home would rather let her settle in first then we would be happy to allow that also - as long as an agreement was made that it would be done and she would not be bred from! She is used to being around horses and doesnt bat an eyelid at them.
She is only trustworthy off lead in secure areas though and will definitely chase small furries like rabbits, but I'm almost certain she could be sucessfully introduced to a dog savvy cat!!
She does not require muzzling at all for walks.
She is registered/chipped/vaccd up to date but we dont have her vacc card.
We wouldn't want any money for her, just for the cost of the transporter to be covered (which is paid directly to him on delivery of the dog)."
