I'm very excited... oh and need a couple saddle ideas

As stated. I am one excited person :D Murphy is going with me to Wales! Which is more than I could ever have expected to happen. For those that don't know (and those that do can be told again anyway) he failed a vetting last week. Our vet cameout yesterday and he's sound as anything. The buyer had already bought another horse though (the same day he failed the vetting!). So anyway, this lovely sounding yard came up and although it's a little expensive for what it is he can stay out 24/7 and it's close to the uni I'm going to. So mum has said "He can go, it's obviously meant to be.". So there we have it, pending there are no disasters when we go to nosey round the setup on sunday Murph's going with me :)

Ok so this is where saddles come into it. I currently have an Albion XC saddle. It's as old as anything and I've had it a year and its been brilliant... however I like to hack for long periods of time and thats exactly what I'll be doing with him - enjoying ourselves (sod the dressage for a couple years). So I would like so recommendations for something that would be comfortable for the pair of us for long periods. Mum suggested something endurance-type. I also tend to ride very long and tend to do sitting trot due to having had a bone tumor in my knee. Any ideas on a saddle that may fit this bill - or maybe I'm hoping for too much haha.

Wow... If you made it this far there's some Apple and Rhubarb Cake sat in the fridge!
 
That is such good news, so glad you get to keep your baby boy!!!

What about if you kept your saddle but got a memory foam pad to put under it for comfort?

Sounds like my saddle would fit the bill - you can't have it but I have a western trail/endurance saddlle -synthetic so only 17 lbs .
It is an Abetta who start cheap but do better saddles and mine is on a par or just above a wintec -new about $690 but if you find a flex tree endurance you may be lucky as I was and get one for sub £100.

The cut of the saddle as well as the seat make it uncomfortable (excuse lack of proper terminology my brain is full of sugar from a bag of skittles) I end up with a HUGE gap between leg and knee rolls (it is fantastic for jumping in, but as I wont be jumping it's pointless). We always said if he stayed we'd change it for something abit more comfortable haha.

He's a stocky hunter type build. Alot of horse on top (wide fit in the albion).

Here's a picture of him (no commenting on the shocking riding in that though!)

He matches my mare for shape.
Just look for a trail/endurance/WH to fit or find a saddler like mine (wrong side of the country) where you can park your derrière on numerous saddles before taking them near a horse.

You would not believe the begging I had to go through to get mum to consider letting me keep him! Feel free to send donations to his hay fund though :rolleyes: He can certainly pack it away and it's expensive this year!
 
I'd find a good local fitter who can offer a wide variety of wide and flattish saddles and look at endurance, VSD and even working hunter models. I'd not recommend foam pads personally - if you are riding distances then sheepskin is the thing as shown by how many top level endurance riders use it. Look for fairly wide flat panels which will spread your weight, though some horses can't take a really wide panel - it needs to sit on the band of muscle eithyer side of the spine and not come down below too far onto the ribs, where they are more exposed.
 
so jealous! I sold my horse last year to move away to uni, have now decided that uni course isnt for me so back home without my boy but have just bought a new foal instead as realised horses are more important so not quite a bad ending but STILL i would have been over the moon if he could have taken the trip to uni with me, it willl be amazing for both of you!

as for saddles i have always preffered just a GP saddle but a falcon or ideal saddle are very comfy! can hack for hours without getting a numb bum!

hope all works out and you both enjoy uni :)
