These animals all now being visited by welfare orgs - and it wasn't even me that reported. Let's hope something improves...

Hopefully they be will following through :)

FDC - I thought I was fairly good with 'good doers' but the heavies really are a different story, aren't they? Well done for getting Fany looking the way she should!

My friend has a gypsy cob gelding that was almost as fat as the stallion at the start of this thread.

She didn't feed him anything at all in the summer and just a few sections of hay in the winter, yet he was still ENORMOUS! He lived out and unrugged. My friend has problems with her hips and found him uncomfortable to ride.

He's now gone out on loan where he is being worked regularly. I'm assuming he's dropped a few pounds since I last saw him. But he's proof that some good doers are better than others!

This is Fany on haylage and a mineral lick
Fany002.jpg

These are not natives, they are the true heavy horses, the continental ones without the addition of TB like the Shires and Clydesdales, they are shorted, Fany is 14-2hh, and much stockier than any breeds native to this country.

ETA- I am not in anyway condoning the state of the Comtois, just saying that these are true heavy horses, true good doers and it is bl**dy hard work getting weight off them. Also saddle used is a Wintec xwide as some one was asking about saddles for the heavy horses.

Gosh, i feel sorry for you. shame you can't inject them with something to make them less of a good doer. cmon science where are you ! lol

That pic is real, unfortunately :( The cob stallion is horrendous, it even looks miserable at its own weight.

That section a looks in foal too :| but it isn't...

Gross, I have a little fatty at the moment that i have recently aquired, running her ragged to get that weight off, but they are on another level.

Edited to say I love Fany :D I could take her to bed!
