Has anyone got any experience of this. My 11 year old springer, Rusty, has been unwell over the weekend, not eating or drinking, sleeping a lot, vomiting green liquid.
We took her to vets today and they ran blood tests and then gave us the results. She has IMHA, where the immune system is attacking the red blood cells. She has been given a large dose of steroids with another tomorrow morning. She is going back to the vets at 9am tomorrow and she may have to have blood transfusion.
We will not keep her going if the prognosis is poor so I would like to hear of your experiences with this ailment. :(

Thanks for your replies. I have now read a bit more about it on that link and it doesn't look good. :(

As she is 11, I don't think we will be putting her through the extensive treatment. We'll see how she gets on overnight and discuss it with the vet tomorrow.

If anyone else has personal experience of this, good or bad, please post here as I am sure it would help me.

Thanks.

Friends of mine had a pointer with sudden onset auto immune issues. He had 2 blood transfusions amongst other treatment. It was a long road, but he is still around and very happy. You should join that forum and ask for some help, they are lovely people on there.
