Hi all,
Just reaching out to see if anyone has experience with Immune Mediated Superficial Keratitis in their horse?

My gelding has recently been diagnosed and is currently at the vets receiving treatment. It’s been a whirlwind trying to get my head around it all, and while the vets have been great, I’m really keen to hear from others who’ve dealt with this long-term.

How did your horse manage? Did the condition come and go, or stay fairly stable once treated? I’d love any practical advice on managing it day-to-day – turnout, masks, medications, long-term prognosis etc.

Feeling a bit overwhelmed, so just looking for some shared experiences, tips, or even just a bit of reassurance from people who understand what this can be like.

Thank you so much in advance 💛

Ive just done some research and it’s not what I thought it was so deleting my reply. Hope you manage to get it sorted!

One of ours had immune mediated keratitis about 5 years ago. After initial treatment by our vets, we had cyclosporine implants done at at RVC. They were supposed to last 18m to 2y, but have never needed repeating. We go for checkups every couple of years and at the latest one there was still no sign of active keratitis. The only downside of the implants was that, as they supress the immune system in the eye, we had to be vigilant about any sort of eye irritation.
