My little mares in horsepital
I've tried to sleep but it's pretty much impossible, all I can do is think about what happened yesterday and hope she's okay.
She hadn't eaten her feed yesterday morning, thought hmm odd but didn't worry too much as she lost her best friend on Friday and she does go off her feed if she's stressed. She was still munching a bit of hay and when I turned her out she wasn't rolling or looking uncomfortable just a little bit quieter than usual (should have known something was wrong then!)
So mucked her out and thought there probably wasn't enough poo there for her but she still wasn't looking uncomfortable at that point so wasn't too worried.
Got a call at about 2pm (one of those "don't panic but .." that I dread) from another livery saying she had been lying down and getting up for a few hours now and they thought she might be a bit hot in her rug.
Got there and she trotted straight over so took her up to the barn and we realised she wasn't too hot but her breathing was irregular, she was weeing and straining alot and once the rug was off you could physically see the spasms down her sides so called the vet hoping it was just spasmodic (she has had that before when stressed)
Vet came out had a real fight with her to get her sedated enough to examine her as she didn't give her enough the first time and you can never get mysti twice
She had a feel inside but mysti was being uncooperative again and straining, she managed to get a few bits of poo out that looked a little bit suspicious. So then to be on the safe side she told me to take her into the vets clinic so they could scan her and do a belly tap etc as mysti had slipped off a few twitches by then and was getting more and more stressed.
So thankfully another livery was around with her horsebox and she offered straight away to take her up there, really don't know how to thank her enough!!
Mysti loaded perfectly considering she hadn't been on a horsebox in years, and was a really good girl in the box very proud of her for that!
Got her to bell equine and she had more examinations, a belly tap, blood tests and we realised she had an impaction and possibly colitis too as she had a high temperature at the yard but it was slightly lower at the vets. She then had to have a tube up her nose for some fluids to hopefully push the impaction through.
After that they settled her in for the night and I came home, that was hard but i knew she was luckily in the best place and if the vet earlier hadn't been over cautious and told me to take her in I have a feeling she wouldnt have been here in the morning
No news is good news is what I'm trying to tell myself, and mystis army of fans are all willing her on.
