My horse earlier in the year had been diagnosed with a Distal Impar Ligament injury with thickening/inflammation.

The horse (luckily) was only very mildly lame on one rein on a circle. Sound on the other rein and in straight lines. We decided to turn him away as he is young and very talented and *touch wood* appears to have improved.

I was just after any experience on anyone with impar ligament injuries and how bad the injury was, the treatment, prognosis and outcome :) Thanks!

My SJ mare injured hers to years ago, she was 100% fine then all of a sudden hopping lame! At first we thought abscess as is was instant and she was on 3 legs (she is a drama queen) i was only hacking, trotting up the road. Anyway nerve blocks confirmed the foot, x-rays showed nothing so she had an MRI. MRI confirmed very very slight damage so we were hopeful. She had tildren to stop any boney changes happening and box rest then controlled turn out. She come sound and i slowly started to work her but on her second week of canter work she didnt feel quite right, we medicated the foot but i decided to put her in foal. She had been sound ever since but 3 weeks after foaling went hopping lame again, we thought it was bruising at first as she had a stone in her foot, 5 weeks later no better, actually getting worse so my vet was out on Monday and its looking like the ligament again although we can't be 100% without another MRI but as the foot is no longer covered under her insurance i haven't £1300 to spend on another! I think i've just been very unlucky as my vet was very confident all would be fine :-( it may not be the ligament again, she is on 6 weeks controlled controlled movement in a little paddock, ideally needs box rest but we have to think of the foal to and will then re-assess, if no better we will x-ray just to see if it is boney rather than soft tissue but its very similar to before :-( sorry my story isnt a happy one, but i dont' have much luck so everything crossed for your boy
