Not at all breeding-related, but you guys seem to know you stuff, conformation-wise!!

Just wondering what would be the likely implications of a 2 year old with a very straight back? Health problems? Future riding problems, etc. Anything to maybe reduce the straightness?!

Thank you lots!

Any pics? By straight do you mean no wither and not much slope on the hind1/4?
Tbh, 2 year olds change so much I wouldnt worry unecessarily about things like that until the horse is much more developed- late 3yr old/early 4yr old.

Yep, no wither and no slope! Havent got any pics at the mo - not my horse you see. He's not a warmblood, he's some sort of heinz 57! Possibly got some standardbred / tb in him. Sorry, not very helpful really am i!!

Good to hear he's still got time to re-shape though.

Second that backs are all over the place with youngstock. Saw one locally with a dowagers hump at 2 by three had a lovely back and had poped some withers now you'd never know in work and no problems at all.

The standardbred can be quite straight backed in some lines though. Ideally you would like to to see is some slope in the hind quarters as I've not seen that change much in youngstock.

It's hard to judge because he's a bit underweight at the moment. That's a very straight back though! I dont THINK it's that straight, but it's not far off. Nice to know yours manages so well.
Thank you!
