Hi everyone,

I‘m currently in the US and have completely fallen in love with a horse here. I was wondering if anyone has recently imported a horse from here? If so, how complicated is it and how much did it cost?

Thank you!

I did it the other way round and it was 15-20k in the end as my shared load from LA to CO got cancelled.

Do think you are a little crazy though as americans pay about 3 x for a horse of the same standard in USA, as they would in UK!

There is no quarantine coming into the UK, but there could be a quarantine the US before shipping. It depends on how the horse is exported.

A lot of times the flights are into Germany, then you ship by box to England. All can add to the expense. I would find a good shipping agent and they can give you an idea of costs.

I brought my horse from Canada about 10-ish years ago. It cost me about £5K all in. Flights are either to the Netherlands (mine went to Amsterdam) or Germany. Unless this is a horse of a lifetime, I would probably just buy here. I had already had mine for 7-8 years.

It's much cheaper to buy a quality horse from UK or Europe than the USA. Bruce Springfield visits a yard in Germany with his daughter to purchase top quality show jumpers. AS friend of mine used to work there & that's how I heard.
