Hi, does anyone have any experience of importing a puppy from abroad?
Just wondering if anyone had any ideas what rules and regulations there are regarding quarantine and travelling to the UK?
Thanks in advance :)

We are importing a puppy from America possibly in March. The pet passport also works from the U.S . The pup has to stay on your property for 30 days.

In our breed people have been importing from the continent for years, I've never done it but I only have the calibre of dog I have, because people imported his relatives to the UK, if you see what I mean :) I know a lot of the working people import because the type of dogs they are looking for are not bred in this country.
If it is something you can get here, then fair enough, if you are after something special, want to freshen up the gene pool, personally speaking for my breed, the best dogs are coming out of Belgium, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Germany, but of course there are always shysters and dealers trying to sell rejects and cast-offs for big cash, but of course you get that in any type of animal!!!

Thanks, as I said, out of curiosity and given that I have no knowledge or breeding this hadn't actually occured to me (maybe if the OP had mentioned a specific breed it may have turned the cogs in my brain a bit........unlikely but possible!!!!)
I do remember now actually looking for a specific breed from a research point of view and I think there were only a couple of breeders in the UK at that point and they had a 3 year waiting list and would have expected you to visit several times over the 3 years to establish if you were committed enough for this breed.
I'll stick with looking after my friends mutts!!!
