Hi.
I might decide to live in the UK some time later this year and would like to bring my 7y.o Dutch warm blood with me from Spain. Can anyone enlighten me on the paperwork needed? He has a passport and i would trailer him myself in a comfortable 2 horse trailer. And also what crossing point would be best...i.e Folkstone by train,Dover by ferry??
Thanks

I can't answer your question really as I used Parkers Horse Transport to bring my boy over from Spain. A Ministry vet came out to see him on the day of travel to certify that he was ok to go. He almost didn't let him go as somehow he knew that my boy was imported from Portugal to Spain as a 2 yo and we didn't have the relevant paperwork. He went the Calais -Dover crossing. Defra then also contacted me out of the blue 9not quite sure how they knew) to check if he was a Stallion or not. It may be worth contacting Defra and the Spanish equivalent to find out all the details.

Thanks for the reply.Do you mind me asking how much Parkers Horse Transport charged and how long it took?
Thanks again.

hi we brought 5 horses back from alicante via a international transporter. it takes 3 days .
crossing at calais.
its a hell of a trip in a trailer.
if you get on a shared load you could prob get it at 500 a horse.
we had the state vet out who just checked passport matched the horse.
and paperwork done then and there and its free .
it was the easiest thing we came across in spain lol.
i may still have state vets address if u need it.

Best to make sure you have an up to date green card, go talk to your local OCA. Tell them what you want to do, let them tell you what they need. Don't offer info just answer questions.
(Long journeys have to have stops, where the stables are registered, make sure this doesn't apply to you, as I don't believe there are any in Spain!!!)
Make sure you trailer is matriculado if you are towing with a spanish reg vehicle.
The Uk DEFRA opted out of the database europe uses to move horses, Traces, but this is a database to show lorries licensed to move long haul across europe. We had a problem with this. We ended up using ETA as they sorted out the paperwork faster. Good luck. I'm afraid I don't know much more!
