Desperately trying to find a smart bridle without a flash attachment. Horse is a 16'1 thoroughbred with a long, but thin face. He wears a full at the moment, but on quite high straps.

He doesn't need a flash, so really would like a bridle without one - although I'm really struggling to find one I like that isn't incredibly thin and doesn't break the bank! Don't particularly like the rolled ones.

If relevant we're dabbling in low level eventing, local shows etc.

Any recommendations?

Sabre Eton bridles are nice hunterweight ones for under £100, Jeffries do a similar range too both without flash. I have just ordered a made to measure bridle from CK equine on facebook though - awaiting delivery but her work looks really good and comes in around £100.00 with loads of choice about noseband etc

Have a look at PS of Sweden .

I had the same dilemma, and they do a nice one with a flash that is removable without the additional tab you usually get.

It is very easy to remove - or have removed by a saddler, if you are not craftsy - the little loop from a flash noseband. You can either just slice it off (carefully) with a Stanley knife or other blade, or if you're really fussy (like me) you can unpick and re stitch.

I agree - I hate flashes and ever so many years ago treated mine and me to a Dy'on bridle. I just love it and it is fantastic leather and just fab - but it came with a flash!! I obviously don't use the flash part and at some point will get a saddler to remove that loop below the noseband - but I have had it for 8 years and haven't had it done yet!!

Back in the day bridles didn't all come with flashes did they? I seem to remember that you had to look for them if you wanted one instead of having them thrust upon you. It really irritates me to see a loop that I don't need so I end up spending more on a bridle than I want to, just to avoid the flash.

I remember ponies with the flash attachment that you got separately.

depending on your budget oz (cremedemonthe) makes absolutly gorgeous bridles - I adore mine and it cost me less than a similar modular bridle from jeffries would have cost me

Thanks, not making any at the mo. All bridles with flash loops can have them removed, stanley knife if you are careful and confident. If you want a professional job, ask your local Saddler, he/she will remove it, restitch it and stain and make good so you will never know it even had one, Oz :)

Have a look at Jaguar. That's what I went for and I seem to remember it came with two different size cheek pieces, great if you might be between sizes.

Thats a shame - it's one of the nicest bridles I've ever come across. I've never found another one with such lovely supple leather

Or get a not nice synthetic one... will look fine from a distance and be a-ma-zing to clean (with the hose...).

Seriously, bridle shouldn't really be 'doing' a lot, so, whatever works... will be fine for eventing. and then get som'at else for shows if you feel it matters...

I had a bridle made for my boy from local saddler. He was between cob and full size. Fitted beautifully and didn't really cost anymore than a premade bridle and the nose band of my choice.

There are loads of options for cavesson bridles. Personally my best ever bridle buy is the sabre Córdoba. Superb quality and you can mix and match nosebands

Sabre or English bridles, both lovely leather and you can mix and match English bridles. Dy'on do a lovely bridle with removable flash but they are nearly twice the price of the others.

I treated the leather with my leather conditioner which as you know, you can make yourself, so was supple when I supplied it to you and the reason I am not making them at the moment is, I am making cockerel collars and have made over 700 and counting so don't have time for much leather work or saddlery these days!
Oz :)
