Have any readers used the above shoes for riding?? I am considering having them put on my 12h 18 year old pony. I would appreciate any experiences or knowledge you have.
Many thanks

I know quite a lot about these having had a laminitic. I am afraid I would not part with £300 just to ride in them when I could buy hoof boots for £80 which practically do the same thing, but allows a bit more natural movement and lasts much longer.

There are two types of imprint shoes, the white ones are extremely slippery on the roads while the grey ones are meant to be ridden in.
As the above poster i wouldn't pay that much each set, but instead try hoof boots.

I had them on my previously never shod teenage criollo at the beginning of this year. He'd been very footy and sensitive and basically unrideable for almost a year (metabolic issues plus a wonky fetlock joint meaning foot balance is a very technically challenging procedure). He's landed toe first since I had him, been through a farrier, an EP, and an independent barefoot trimmer, and worn Old Macs when sound enough to ride - less than half of the 4+years I've had him.

They were put on by Andrew Poynton (who invented/developed IMPRINTS) as he's local to us. My boy went from creeping round the field and looking miserable to a TROT in the field on frosty ground a week after fitting. He went on to have a second set, then just fronts, and now is in metal shoes in front.

Once we got going I rode daily in the IMPRINTS and found them less slippy than metals on roads. He popped one off on the hard frosty ground in the paddock within a fortnight but Andrew replaced it free. Otherwise, they easily lasted 6 weeks and showed very little wear, although we do have a lot of off road/grass tracks round here.

Needless to say I'm a big fan of IMPRINTS as they basically saved my boy's life...it was a last ditch attempt to sort him out. They are an amazing invention and if I had unlimited funds I'd use them for ever. For most people I'd expect them to be only affordable as remedial shoes..the cost crippled me!

One reservation..they are pretty challenging and time consuming to put on - I'm not sure your average farrier would be capable - and if they aren't put on exactly right they pop off.

Hope this helps!
