If we wanted to buy a horse from Latvia (seen a lovely looking boy)and bring him here would we need to have him quarantined, or if he's passported would he not need it.
It obviously is transporting within the EU.
Just thinking.;)

When we got Whisk from Germany he did not need to be quarantined. He had to have blood samples taken by a vet in Germany and all sorts of paperwork. We had him professionally transportes over so they took care of all the legal stuff for us.

From EU Countries, you do not normally need to have a horse quarantined.
Having a Passport does not exempt them from quarantine from non-EU contries.

right
you don't need to quarantine, you need valid coggins test and a ''fit to travel'' vet certificate. Coggins takes 5 days to come back, the fit to travel cert is valid for 10 days.
If you use a reputable professional transporter, they will be able to do all the paperwork for you.
It's easy, really, but it won't be cheap to get the horse here.

I imported 2 friesians middle of last year from holland
, i didn't need them quarantined just need a health certificate to say they where fit to travel and there passports
I used a travel company from Dover I'n Kent called ETA
They themselfs and the breeders sorted out the paperwork between then for me
All i did was pay and recieve and receiving end
If i wanted to import again i defently would
It was a lot easier then i thought
All I'n all for the pair it cost me 620 for a days travel and over night stay at the travel company stables before being transported to me

it cost us £5000 to transport mine from the UAE via Amsterdam.
considering it took 5 days in all including an overnight stay at Newmarket, i don't think its too expensive

I paid €2500 to ship from Cyprus to UK by road/sea. Horse didn't need any tests or microchips or anything in Cyprus but did have a vet certificate of health once she reached Greece. It took 12 days for the whole trip.

My horse got injured on the way to the port and I suspect she had a fall at some point on the journey. She still hasn't fully recovered since the trip in September as she's still unsound so it's not without risk. i don't know if she will be rideable again but at least she's a good mare so breeding is a possibility.

I would advise shipping well before winter to get the weight back on, otherwise it can be a constant struggle and money pit.

Blood_magik - did you fly yours?

he did quarantine in Sharjah then he flew to Amsterdam. Amsterdam-London-glasgow was all done by truck. his travel buddy got dropped off in Manchester before he got dropped off.

wish I could have afforded to fly mine then maybe she would be sound and I wouldn't have had to battle with the amount of weight she lost on the journey all winter.
