Wondering if anyone has any tips or exercises to encourage a horse to be more careful with its back legs? I have a mare who has great scope but once the jumps get a bit higher and the oxers get a bit wider she becomes really sloppy with her back end. Wondering what to do with her to improve this a bit because we want to go up in height this summer but the bigger they get the less careful she becomes! Mainly happens with oxers and we end up with the back bar down. We could have a perfect stride to the jump but it’s like she doesn’t really care anymore - then you take her out cross country and she’s a machine no matter how wide or tall the jump is! What kind of gridwork, polework, flatwork, ANYTHING can I do to help her out?

It’s worth looking at your own position mid-air because if she is well within herself ability wise it could be you causing the issue either with not enough give in the hands or bringing the body up too quickly over the top of the fence
