Improving hooves

My horse has really awful hooves. They are very brittle and don't grow very well. My farrier is very good, and his feet have improved since I had him but I was wondering if you know any effective treatments or supplements that actually work?

It is really good, used it on my old mare who had laminitis and the hoof detached from the coronet band, which caused pedal bone rotation, long story short, she re-grew a whole new hoof with the help of this and even the farrier was amazed, so he went and bought some too.

I use Kevin Bacon hoof dressing which works really well. For particularly bad hooves, I use Kevin Bacon Hoof Supplement. It's expensive but it works so well that it is definitely worth it. I also hear that Effol Hoof Ointment is brilliant but I haven't tried it myself.

Kevin Bacon hoof oil is supposed to be about the best there is. Also feeding a good all-round diet, supplemented by something like Formula 4 Feet or Farrier's Formula.

When mine had bad feet that didn't want to grow, I put her on F4F at first, then TopSpec once they had improved, and used Cornucrescine to help them grow. That stuff also worked wonders on my nails!

A good diet. If anything still needs to be used, then a biotin compound.

The hoof horn is already dead, like your fingernails, so no amount of lotions and potions can help long term.

My cobs hooves are much better since he started on naf slimline which is predominantly seaweed based.

I agree with Dilbert - seaweed is the only thing which has helped by two TBs feet - one is barefoot and the other is only shod on the fronts. It is cheap as well. I tried F4F and every other supplement going, but seaweed is the only one which has any effect.
