Hi

Are there any good products out there to help hoof regrowth? For example, of the nails of the shoe don't have a very good hoof wall to be nailed in to, e.g it is weak, cracked and generally a bit crappy.

I've heard of people using aloe Vera but I don't know much about it.

Many thanks :)

My old mostly TB hunter came with pretty shoddy feet in September. Farrier was despairing!! He was footy, they were crumbly and looked incredibly unhealthy.

So I started feeding him a low sugar low starch diet along with Progressive Earth Pro Hoof (buy off Ebay) and applied Kevin Bacon hoof dressing 5 days a week or Keratex Hoof Hardener on the other 2. I also used the Keratex Nail hole stuff once he'd been shod just to disinfect the nail holes.

But now he has pretty good feet. He's only lost one shoe since I've had him and that was him standing on it.

He has his fronts done every 6 weeks and his hinds every 4 weeks.

Thanks for the replies... he isn't my horse (yet) but when I get him he needs to be on a low sugar, low energy diet anyway. So probably some chaff and pony nuts, with ad lib soaked hay.

The nail hole stuff sounds good, basically he had his shoes left on too long and I think the nails were the cause of an abscess he had. The hooves have just cracked really and I want to prevent any further chance of a new abscess and improve the condition and strength of the hoof overall.
