In 2011 I never thought I'd...

Excellent thread Jennifer B - lol at you and the scary tyre! You didn't mention that skinny in the woods! QUOTE]

The tyres have scared me for longer - the skinny was an addition last year but it's not a fence I like much either lol!

I was actually looking at pictures of you and C at a training thing at Titwood earlier on (we hunted there Sat and was looking for course photos), there were some good ones I don't remember seeing posted before? You guys have come on so much this year, maybe you can do the scary tyres and skinny in 2012?

Lovely to read everyone's stories, keep em coming!

I started this year thinking it would be fab, we had just finished building a barn and were putting stables in, my Dad was very excited and had paid for IAE ones when he died suddenly in Feb. Gutted:(. Most of the time I'm ok, but I still have moments - usually when I'm on my own as I feel a bit silly - as people have said you should expect to outlive your parents but thats no comfort when it happens. :( Sadly he never got to see the stables up and finished.

On the horse side, I had it all planned to really crack on and improve my dressage. My boy Jack was really good, we came 2nd individually in the RC qualifiers (intro level) and the team won overall so we headed off to Aston le walls. 'twas all good (great Dr and SJ) until roads and tracks when he spooked and I fell breaking my thumb, rib, hat, point two, number bib and nearly lost my stopwatch. very expensive!!

Since Aston I had a few more BE runs - moved up to BE100 and going clear - we just need to improve the speed xc but so far no xc faults :). He is now roughed off for the winter. We are currently building an arena so next year I should have absolutely no excuse.

Clip my big lad without drugs or restraint (he had a clipping accident a few years ago) - but did it yesterday in the yard, in a headcollar, standing still, no twitch or anything. Still a bit scared, but letting me do it. Very very proud of him! Also vindicates all the hours I have spent rubbing an electric toothbrush over him, much to the amusement of the rest of the yard . .

Sounds like we have all had some fab times in 2011.
I never thought I would:

*Start the year with my 3 fantastic horses and end it with just one (although I miss my other too I am very happy now that I have time and money to put into my boy)

*My boy got the most horrible kick I have seen and was on 4 months box rest, first show back and we came away with three 1st's.

*Realise that although I love competing I am just as happy actually enjoying spending time with my horse and hacking about.

* Buy an ex-racer and sell it for a profit
* Jump BE90, 100 and novice jumps on my mare
* Have a lame horse on (sometimes) all legs with unidentified lameness!

in 2011 with Dancer I never thought:
I would come first in prelim class on Dancer with 68% out of 20 horses and win prize money!
Do our first novices and get 64- 65%
Affiliate in BD finally!

In 2011 with Rowan I never thought:
He would be so amazing at jumping!!
Be so chilled at his first ever dressage competitions.

In 2011 with Lola I never thought:
She would be so well behaved in the show ring and at shows.
Place in the top 3 in every competition.
Go to the Royal London show after we qualified!
be so easy to back

In 2011 with Myself:
Get a full time job over the summer at a huge competition/ livery yard and make so many new friends :)
Roll my car into a farmers field and in doing so, total it and get driven to hospital in a ambulance!
Get a new shiny lime green fiesta ;)

.......Thought I would get around a BE Intermediate, let alone get placed :D!
.......Sell Murphy :(.
.......Thought Jem would make BE100 feel so easy :D!
.......Have quite so many trips to A&E !
.......Be back in full time education .

In 2011 I never thought that I'd... win a dressage competition, never mind three! And to have been placed every time out since coming back from injury. :)

Tbh, at the start of the year I wasn't even sure I'd be allowed to ride Hopalong again, never mind compete, so I am so thrilled to be out doing stuff with her again. I just hope she stays sound, feeling as well as she currently does and we don't have any problems when jumping is re-introduced next year... <fingers crossed>

Well done to everyone who has achieved more than they thought this year. :)

Be effectively horseless!

After being out of work for a number of months I made the heartbreaking decision to sell Baileys. I could not bare to sell him myself so took him to the lovely Phoebe Buckley to be sold. Typically the day after taking him I got a job but it was too little to late so he was still sold. He is now in a super PC and hunting home up in Cottesmore Country so keep an eye out for the flying beige pony - video of him and Phoebe having fun XC schooling

My other boy went out on loan and has not had a great year with some health problems but his loaner adores him and has waited patiently for him to come right despite me offering to take him back.

My little old former companion pony was coming back off loan but moved to another family who are loving her and she is teaching another two children to ride.

Things are getting getting back on track financially but I have some structural issues with the house that need to be addressed early next year and then (hopefully!) I can get myself another baby horse and start again. So ask me this again in a couple of years and I hope to have a better year to report :)

No chance of us attempting that skinny! Are there any more novice friendly hunts scheduled up your way this winter? May still try and fit on in now that pony is back in work.

get to where i have with my horses considering the lack of facilities that I have :)

Win my first 2ft 6' XC comp with E, compete in Races for the common ridings and win. HAving a fab summer and also bringing on baby Stella :D

But I also didnt think that 2011 would end with her badly damaging a tendon and have the possibilty of not coming back to full work :(

never thought I'd event affiliated let alone complete 2 BE100's, one with a double clear, qualify for BE90 Regionals, win a 90cm ODE, 2nd at a BE90, compete in 1m SJ classes and get BD points. We have done sooooooooooo much this year that I never imagined we would at the beginning of the year when I'd only had him a few mths, he went like a giraffe crossed with a banana and all we'd done was hunt!

I never thought I'd ...

1.Overcome my nerves and go on a horse camp
2.Really enjoy said horse camp!
3.Want to go to next years horse camp
4. Tackle a XC course
5. Get my mare working nicely down the school and actually think that we may just have a chance of doing ok at dressage next year

i) Ride point to point
ii) Ride a winner
iii) Go back to Uni
iv) Be asked to school young horses over hurdles when there are plenty of more experienced (lads!) work riders available

I never thought I'd:

a) Convince my parents to let me leave school at 16 (check)
b) Buy a youngster straight out my own account and start producing it myself (check)
c) Land a job in eventing (check)
d) Land that-job-in-eventing....on an Olympic event yard!!! (Ch-ch-CHECK!!)
c) Be sat here with a finger snapped nicely in two (....check)

Its been a pretty awesome *cough-flukey-cough* year and I am just so so so so lucky. Roll on 2012! :-D

All the hunting with the L&R is pretty novice friendly, I've yet to jump anything out with them that's scared me even on short-on-jumping pointers. Your best bet is to get to the meets that are held at venues in or around XC courses as you usually get to play over the fences! Problem is the ground at the moment, it was pretty good at Titwood on Saturday though.

Some really brilliant stories on here for all sorts of reasons - Quadro your helicopter ride certainly added a bit of drama to the proceedings!

I never thought I'd:

Win a ODE
Buy a thoroughbred
See the vet for anything other than routine jabs
Leave my lovely little yard :(
See quite so much of the local A&E unit!

It's been an interesting year, with several ups but a lot more downs (literally!). I've ridden some cracking horses including one which will stay in my heart for a long time and hopefully I will be able to buy him when he's finished racing. Sadly said goodbye to my little ginger pony, I'm tempted to book a lesson on her to see how she has changed. Said hello to my big TB girlie and fallen in love with the breed (always been a native girl), made very good friends with my vet..., been in a situation where my breaks failed whilst riding my cob , and for the first time in a long time I am looking forward to getting out competing next year!

- win my (and my horse's) first Prelim with 72%. Also his first time in the trailer, first time indoors and first time in an arena with mirrors
- see such an improvement in his way of going, even managing long and low in canter (he's a very "up" PRE!)
- add him to the roll of Rockley Rehabs
- move to Hong Kong!!!!

I never thought I'd sell my lorry and give up lessons & competing.

Hopefully a temporary situation, although it will be a good 6-9 months in total. Another one with a house that needs structural work - currently underway & we're living in the gym, which is a converted barn between my tack room & hay barn...!

I also thought I'd never win a dr class or get over 70%, but that's exactly what we did just before I was grounded.

And I never thought in a million billion years that I would be getting married in Vegas in 2011. I thought I was going to be stuck with my ex forever. :-))))

In 2011 i never thought i would:

- win a prelim dressage again after so many medical issues with my horse - but we did! :D
- retire the same horse later that year :(
- We would move back to our old yard
- be searching for another horse and will be the owner of potentially two horses

Hoping next year will be a better and more eventful (in a good way) with my new horse once he has been found :D

2010 was generally pretty horrific both personally and horsey wise and I vowed last December that 2011 was our new start, but I never...

Thought my girl would be sound and back in work. It's a long road and I have no idea where we will get to and how much she will cope with but I'm glad we didn't call it a day (or more specifically that the insurance stuff takes so long to go through and she was sound before I had to make that decision)

I definately never thought I would end up with one of my best friends and be buying a house together in a place I said I would never move back to... :)

It's been quite a year :D

In 2011 I never thought I would lose my Meggie

become depressed

buy an ex-racehorse, who is a handful

lose my darling old dog Barney

lose my darling old horse Digby

its been a terrible year

on the positive...
Be brought my own beautiful novice eventer!
get 5 double clears eventing out of 5 runs!
get placed in dressage
win 1.05 showjumping
jump round my first 1.10 sj
jump an advanced BE jump, and school round intermediate jumps!
meet William Fox Pitt!!!

on the negative...
retire my old horse due to very badly torn check ligament

all in all an amazing year never to be forgotten :)
