Please bare with me as this will be long.

Basically are yard is set up where we have 6 stables in a row indoors and we each have our own ally ways and space infront of our stable to keep our belongings and hay. Infront of my stable I have my area and a post with a tie ring that I tie my horse too as if I tie him infront of stable door he always gets his bridle/headcollar caught and breaks them. The post is infront of my stable so it is my post but thats besides the point just trying to create an image in your heads :p

The lady next door to me has a horse that weaves, fidgets etc and she has no control of as she is quite nervous, she refuses to put her in the stable as she weaves in there so she lives out 24/7 and brings her into yard to tack up etc. Basically whenever she brings her horse in she wees (like niagra falls) all over the concrete, the wee runs into my hay, all over my rugs and today soaked my headcollar which was hanging by my tie ring whilst I was riding. A couple of days ago the horse weed over my stable into my water bucket too! Now my little nf pony was gelded late so you can imagine the fun I have but thats besides the point, I dont think its acceptable for someone elses horse to wee all over my belongings and all over my horses rugs etc, it smells, its unhygenic and is totally out of order. The lady then had the cheek to say I once left my wheelbarrow infront of her stable?! So thats not acceptable but its okay for her horse to wee all over my things.

I spoke to yard owner about the situation and said it was best to approach her directly as she is a lovely lady and wont take offence so today I did when i saw the state of my headcollar. I very politely said I wasnt very happy etc and explained it wasnt very hygenic and I want to do (hopefully) high level showing with my horse in the summer and do not want him stabled (in the day, out at night in summer) in the day next to horse wee with flies all over it and then landing on him. I said Ive had to take rugs home to wash and clean grooming box etc and could she possibly catch it in a bucket or sort her horse out before she sorts her car and trailer out as she just leaves her horse tied up whilst she sorts other things out. I said it all very politely and unoffencivly as she is a lovely lady and helps me train my dog etc and get on with her well.

The lady didnt take it well at all, infact she absolutely flipped and went MAD at me! Saying how dare I her horse can wee where she wants, I should move yards, I once left her wheelbarrow infront of her stable, I am not discussing it further, she is just an animal etc.

I text yard owner what happend and havent had a reply.

What should I do from here? I cant move my stuff and dont feel I should move my stuff as its infront of my stable causing no one else problems. There was another lady there on the yard watching over and I did ask her after if I came across rude at all and said no not at all.

I'd buy some big boxes and keep my things in there so they can't get damaged and ask her to keep the horse out of your stable

Get a couple of pallets to put your stuff on, so if this lady's mare pees again near your stuff it will not contaminate your hay and such like, but make sure your headcollar is put away not dangling on rope or on floor.

Put you stuff on a pallet so it is off the floor? TBH it is not her problem that the drainage is so poor that if her horse wee's while tied outside her stable that it runs into your stuff (though obviously she should attempt to sweep it away).

What should I do from here?

Tell her straight. It's not acceptable, and you won't tolerate it. The next time it happens she can expect a bill from you for replacement hay, and the cleaning of rugs etc.

And tomorrow you must speak to the YO and tell them to deal with it in no uncertain terms.

It is not acceptable to let the horse piss all over the yard, just because it inconveniences her to put it in a stable - and if that's the way she expects to be able to behave, maybe she should move to a yard that doesn't give a damn!

People like her drive me crazy.

Speak to the yard owner - point out you've tried to discuss it reasonably. Even on pallets, repeated urine everywhere is not good. Keep it reasonable and calm at all times. You pay for this - you need to get what you pay for.

Why should I buy boxes/pallets etc? If her horse accidently weed on the floor on the odd occasion it would be okay but she purposely lets it wee and stands there watching whilst she wees over my things. I dont feel I should move all my things etc out of the way to accomodate someone else when I am not doing anything wrong. If I buy pallets the wee will then just go stale underneath and what should I do with regards to summer and flies? The wee does drain but obvioulsy sits on the concrete till it dries and leaves a lovely smell.

I am being really silly? Am I the only one that seems to be annoyed or should I just accept that my things and horse are going to smell of very smelly mare wee for years to come...

No, you're not being silly. I'd be bloody furious.

EDT: Of course the compromise could be to swap stables with her.......

Seriously? Would have thought the ruined hay would be more of a concern.......................

Can't she leave her horse INSIDE her stable to wee?

her horse never goes in the stable, she keeps her dogs in there whilst she is at the yard but never seen the horse in the stable the 5 years ive been there. She weaves in it, but she weaves outside her stable anyway. Dont understand why she cant put her horse in the stable for 2 minutes to see if she will wee, if not turn her out.

YO could offer to put a weaving grill on her stable. I think pallets outside the stable are potentially dangerous I.e-if a horse puts it's foot through the slats.

Maybe speak to yard owner and see if they will have a word.

Forget everything else the fact is her horse pees over your hay so you can't feed it to your horse.

She needs to put her horse in the stable when she's not there to catch it in a bucket!
I know it weaves but put a weave grill up it will only be for limited amounts if time.

No I'd be annoyed too. But you can always control your actions, you cannot always control other people's ( and this livery sounds like an unreasonable dirty selfish madam). So in addition to raising it with YO, putting a couple of pallets down solves the majority of the issue with little effort.

take a wee outside her stable yourself and see how she likes it! haha

some people are damn right rude! I would be so embarrassed if my horse done that! she has pee'd on the yard before but I've washed and swept it away and she's never got it all over someone else hay or rugs! thats just wrong!

I have to say, though, Rachael, that I'm a firm believer in you get what you pay for.

I've never been on a yard that allowed dogs, and have always had YO's that pretty much ruled with a rod of iron. And this sort of behaviour would never, ever have been tolerated. So maybe a move to a more professionaly run yard may be better? I don't know.:o

I didnt want to upset anyone or fall out but this is exactly how I feel now. It is making me more angry and annoyed. Having a horse that was gelded late is no fun either, especially in the summer but I have learnt to deal with that.

I already pay an awful amount of money to keep him there. Its a very chilled out yard, very clean etc and professional but the yard owner doesnt like to deal with any situations which is a ****** as she is friends with everyone so doesnt like to get involved. It is difficult and I would hate to move. The only professional yards around here are very expensive and normally only do full livery so it would be difficult for me.

ahaha just sit on her hay! I would be too. I slightly confused how she can create such a fuss over me leaving a wheelbarrow outside her stable (which I cant actually remember doing as my wheelbarrow lives the other side) which is easily manouverable yet when I politely say Im not very happy with horse piss all over my things I get murdered!

Fair enough.

But the YO's not there to be friends with everyone (although of course that's to be desired). They're there to run a business and deliver a service.

Let us know what the outcome is of any further discussions. And good luck.

I'd buy a massive tarpaulin and block her off .... (windbreak style) :D sweep pee back over to her end and see how she likes walking the dogs through it!!

Seriously though, what an inconsiderate woman! Hopefully YO will sort it :)

I see your options to buy boxes to put your rugs etc in and the hay on top-assuming they are small bales. Gets some pallets and put things on top but would be a bit cautious a horses doesn't put its foot through it, and when her horse wee's get a bucket of water and something cheap and smelly to flush it away with a yard broom.

Not your job but saves the agro and others might see you doing it making them realise how it affects the area your in. YO sounds gutless :(

It's not nice when things a covered with wee and why she doesn't just make up a small bed in the stable for the mare to wee in and then the dogs can go in there is beyond me.

Yes I agree, everyone is just so very closely knitted and yo said it would be best for me to speak to her so that she doesnt get involved - annoying I know!

Thanks for your help :)

build a wall of horse poo outside of her stable :D... I jest;)

Sounds like a blooming pain in the bum ! I'd ask if she is willing to swap stables next.

I dont really have room for boxes/pallets etc as they would have to go where I tie my horse and will then have no where to tie him. yes well I am now always there with a broom and just sort of laugh it off saying it winds my horse up etc, but now I have actually said something....

She would NEVER put her horse in a stable, not even for 2 seconds so just piddles all over the yard and my things! :D
