Enter a prelim with my 6yo and do all of the canter movements in a half/light seat how much would I be ridiculed and how many marks will I be forfeiting?
you would loose marks for your position, but if the horse was working forwards and softly into a nice outline and the movements were performed correctly then you shouldnt loose marks for them.
That's what I was thinking.
At the moment she i still too weak behind to work *through* in canter while I'm trying to sit into her, which ends up in her hollowing, tensing and tail swishing. The next transition to canter then goes to pot as she is anticipating it to be difficult.
If I stay light then she stays soft and steps under, so I'm thinking the marks I'd lose for position would not be as hefty as the movement marks we'd lose, as well as the collectives for submission etc.
I'd like to get things spot on before taking her out really, but she's just far too understimulated working at home and I don't think it'd do her any harm to get some ring experience.
I competed a young horse who got really tense in his back, if I sat and asked him to really step under then he would have a temper tantrum. I managed to keep a light seat by forfeiting having quite such an upright position. We still scored 80%!! But this was young horse classes where the rider isn't marked.
Practice at home how subtle you can be in making your seat light. If your bum is out the saddle and you are really leaning forwards then you will lose more marks.
She's fine in her back, it is really just a case of unbelievable low mileage due to various injuries (both hers and mine), and having to re-educate her that she *can* move like that, as she is still her much a racehorse in her canter work
