i know it sounds bad, but i havent got jazz scanned since she came back from stud, as i really cant afford it. to be honest im treating her like she is, just in case, and if shes not, no harm done. if i have the cash i will get her scanned though. she went to stud middle of june, and come into season the day after, stayed for 4 weeks and no season since. so foal will be due earliest mid may which would make her nearly 5months now. since shes had 2 foals already, maybe thought she might show a little earlier? just seems to me like her belly is going very slightly foal shaped. although i may just be hoping !

Have you not had her scanned at all? You better hope (and pray) if she is pregnant it is only a single...

What happens if anything goes wrong during pregnancy or foaling? Will you not get the vet out because you can't afford it?

I'm sorry if this sounds harsh but I'm actually quite shocked.

She looks in foal, she looks lovely. Can I ask if you can't afford to have her scanned why did you put her in foal?

she came back from beginning of aug, was going to have her scanned 3 weeks later, unfortunately my job took a turn for the worst and i havent had the spare pennies. just waiting for my new licence to come through so i can work full time again at a better rate. soon as it does she will be scanned right away

the lack of cash flow is only a temporary issue, which will be sorted before xmas, if i had know it would happen i wouldnt have put her in foal..... and yes if anything goes wrong the vet will be out straight away!

Before everyone gets on their high horse and on the bandwaggon, situations can change out of the blue and out of our control.

The indignation isn't helpful and won't change the fact that the OP lost income AFTER the mare was covered.

thank you for you support, was what i was trying to say but ....you know!

she will be scanned as soon as i get my finances in order which will not be long!

OP she is looking that way, and as you are treating her as she is in foal I would just continue to do so until things pick up and you get her scanned.

LM you always seem to have an axe to grind

thanks, i would rather do that than just leave her be, have spoken to the vet about it all too, so we are having a "kind of" plan of action! my vets are very helpful :)

Well you've missed the point of no return with regards to twinning. That is the most important scan and should have been done at 16 days. As it is you haven't done this so time is not of the essence any more. Jeez what sort of stud farms are these places so many people on this forum send their mares to?? They don't have scanners or equine vets who come in and scan these mares pre and post insemination??

Who knows if the mare is pregnant. She looks pregnant to me but if she's had a few foals before then perhaps she's just got a broodmare belly. I hope your job search goes well and you find out sooner rather than later whether your mare is pregnant or not. Is the foal in your signature one of her previous foals?

It does look rather like a foaly belly. :) Our mare was scanned twice on the portable scanner, frankly it was bloody awful and we couldn't see a thing on the scanner! It was running off mains electric so no idea what happened there unless it was a dodgy bit of equipment. Very puzzling lol.

ETA: ours was an accidental foal from my stallion (mare did some fence hopping, not the other way around!) so we didn't realise she was in foal to begin with.

no i had to use my own vet. i have a job already just limited on the work i can do untill my new licence arrives thats all. as soon as it does i will be getting her scanned.

yes the coloured in my sig is a previous foal which is still have, and is now coming up 19 months, but by a different stallion.

Obviously my sort of hole in the wall set up :(

I don't scan visiting mares as par for the course, that is entirely up to the mare owners. I recommend it, and am happy to arrange it, but I can't make people do it.

Mare looks a bit preggers to me.... but could just be a saggy belly ;)

BUT......

Good old HHO..... someone asks for an opinion and then certain members have to fling mud and accusations.....

Reminds me why I dont bother with the forum anymore..... too many people on their high horses.....

How I hope those people who criticise one day have the tables turned on them!!
