I currently have my 2yo in the usual rubber straight bar for inhand showing, but he is really mouthy with it and wondered if there is a different bit i could use.
Is it allowed to use a snaffle?
He is used to wearing a bridle and has had it on countless times.
And also is there something that could give me more control like a chain that does not pull on the bit? i am currently leading him off the noseband but he is very strong and 16hh!

Well, I have been through this and still going through it now mine is 3 yo and being broken in. I started in the nylon in hand bit that I think you're on about? You can though use a snaffle but maybe try a lozenge or french link so you don't have the nutcracker action. My horse is quite mouthy too and i did have happy mouth bits in but he chewed them and made them sharp so I have scrapped that idea.

I just got a brass coupling to lead mine in so it attaches to each side of the bit and therefore you get even pressure on the bit. At the end of the day he's going to have to get used to bit pressure eventually so I would start now and at least you will have control! Mine was about the same height as yours and quite headstrong/bolshy!!
