Good afternoon folks.

Ok, so I'm new to the world of showing. I've watched lots of shows from the sidelines but never actually taken part. That is all going to change as we have our very own show to attend very soon. Only in hand, nothing desperately stressful.

So, I thought I'd get a nice in hand showing bridle and to be quite honest the amount of different styles out there is mind boggling.

Is there anything in particular I should be looking out for or avoiding? Some have rolled leather or chains under the chin or brass fittings to the nose band or brow band ... Just what should I be getting??

Someone please help this numpty before I throw my iPad out of the window and decide that I just can't do it if I can't even sort out my tack! 😉

Get one that suits your horses face. Look at what horses are wearing in classes you fancy. Enjoy shopping for it.

If you do fancy an inhand bridle try to get one with a flat noseband if you can (harder to find but Shires make one) brass clincher, plaited or plain browband are all ok for a section C

If your boy is a stallion a horseshoe bit, if he isn't a neat loose ring bit

Dont use a chain lead or chain coupling, they look very tacky unless they are good quality, use either a three way coupling (pulls on the noseband before the bit so nice and gentle) or a coupler or butterfly lead on to the bit only

oh and always brown not black

This is brill, thank you. At least I was aiming for the right colour! Off to research what three way coupler, coupler and butterfly leads are now. Good job I enjoy research! Chuckle. 35 yrs of horses and sometimes I wonder what on earth I've spent my time learning. ;)

I love my butterfly lead (though do very little showing) they look less bulky than couplings
