I am looking for and in hand bridle with a flat hunter noseband - does anyone have one they wish to sell? full size. I am having trouble locating one and the ones I have found are quite expensive.

thanks in advance to you all and happy new year.

I have sent you a PM - but can you tell me where you are getting bridle made as the sites I have found seem to charge a LOT more than that. And people - don't shoot me down by telling me the cost for making a bridle - I understand all that - I just have a very limited budget.

No problem, I can't think of any other bridles in that price range.
I have Native Pony and Flyde In-hand bridles, both lovely quality but they are around £70.

TBH I can see I am going to have to stretch my budget and get a new one/one made. I just thought it was worth asking on hear just in case someone had one lurking at the back of their tack room!

Don't give up hope, someone might read your post and point you in the right direction. Good luck and just keep an eye on eBay, Preloved and local FB selling pages :smile3:

Thanks for posting this thread! I've been looking for an inhand bridle for ages for my cob. He needs a wider noseband than most inhand bridles have to compliment his face but haven't found on yet. Most either have a ridiculously wide noseband or aren't an inhand bridle so not sure how 'correct' it is to wear one.

well the in hand one I have has a narrow band and each time I see a picture of her in it I just think 'its needs to be wider' but I have searched and I cant find one ready made. Fylde are my best bet so far otherwise its over £100 and some! and I cant justify that. I don't to show her in a double bride as she fights against it and I end up getting the reins in a mess - and I don't like showing in ridden bridle. I do hope someone can up with something or if anyone knows of a bridlemaker who charges slightly less!

I contacted quite a few places about hand made bridles and asked whether my girl needed a raised or flat nose band. Some places didn't reply, flyde just said it didn't matter but the lady from here:

...went above and beyond to find the answers. And I found they type of noseband I need and will now have the correct lead. She has been so helpful. I have no links what so ever it's just I was in your position and she seems very caring and not pushy at all. She's helped so much and she didn't have to. My youngster will still be growing so getting one made in feb time

Hi - no she is 18! I have tried showing her in a double and a rugby so I have the two reins but she just doesn't go well so I went back to my in hand with lead rein and shes much better. and for the little bit of local showing we do im going to stick with what works.

If he's an adult then the 'correct' way is a normal ridden bridle with two reins so either double or pelham. Natives and Arabs being the exception

I would also use a ridden bridle double or pelham

If you are keen to get an inhand bridle hopefully I can explain here what I did and it make sense:

I bought a normal inhand bridle with the bog standard thin noseband, I bought one where the noseband had a buckle BOTH sides to fasten, the bridle I bought was a Dever Ascot one which was about £32 ish and of much more superior quality than others for the same money

I then removed the thin noseband front (this bit has no buckles just the straps with holes as the rear section of the noseband has the buckles)

I took the front section to a saddler who made me a flat front section for about £8-12 (cant remember exactly) I gave them instructions where to taper the sides so it would still fit through the bridle sides

This then fitted to the rear section of the noseband and gave me the bridle I needed for a small price
