Hi

i know NOTHING about showing... so apologies for numpty-tastic questions...

So, my YO is going to a show on monday, and has offered me the spare space in her lorry. Raff is having a shoe-free holiday in the field, so i thought maybe it would be nice for the kids to take Iggle the new shetland companion...

i reckon we could only enter the inhand m&m class, as my 2yr old is not quite at trotting standard... which is required for leadrein class, and i presume also the ridden m&m class?

so, here i go with the numpty questions

:

1. can shetlands enter m&m class? (he's registered)
2. what does he need to look like? (big shaggy mane/tail? or do i attempt to make him smart?!!?!)
3. what does he need to wear? (special in hand bridle?! or normal one with chain thingy?)
4. what does his handler need to wear? i presume it will be me (unless judge will mark us down for the fact i'm 9 months pregnant and about to pop....?)
5. does anyone have any tips on what to do? e.g. do they have to stand 'square'?

a bag of twiglets for y'all.... yum yum.

1. Yes
2. Au Naturel although you can tidy as long as it looks like its not been touched..
3. Normal
4. Smart Casual...hacking jacket, trousers, tie
5. Should be the normal stuff...ie walk round, trot round to back of line, line up..individual show, stand pony up for judge (sqaure), walk away from judge, trot back and past judge plus a chat. That sort of thing.

If that works (i'm rubbish at computer stuff so it may not!) go to page 8/8 photo number SBE_265

that's Elspeth, my 2yo mini Shetland, she does county level showing (and gets placed!) so it will give you an idea of what to wear+how to turn out the pony.

tie?!?! eeek, i think my husband has a winnie the pooh one somewhere... maybe i need to go shopping...

though i do have smart maternity trousers... and my friend has a hacking jacket (not convinced it'll fit over my bump...)

INDIVIDUAL SHOW?!?! gah, am i allowed to copy whoever goes before me?

oh god. at least he's so small i won't have to break into a run for the trot...

I saw someone at a show that was heavily pregnant. She just left her jacket undone. She looked smart too so i wouldn't worry about the bump!

You may have to run, depends how small your Shetland is. But it is better to run them out quite fast as it shows off their paces better. Just try to make sure pony doesn't go in to canter, v.easy for a little one to do if you go too fast!

The show where the pic was taken was the all miniature breeds show...a whole show just for tiddlers! Made a nice change to have one of the biggest ponies on the showground instead of having to look up at everyone!

no chance of that... seriously... i'm 9 months preggers, with leaky waters... and a belly the size of a large beachball. maybe i'll get my (totally non horsey) husband to do it... hmmm...
