In hand showing clinic

The teacher will show you how to get your horse to go the way a judge likes to see and how to get them to stand correctly and look alert, and also how you should stand yourself.

They're very helpful! I've been able to show some people a few tricks I learned from an online one.

Ooo that sounds very interesting thank you! Please feel free to share any tips too. Oh you have just reminded me, I was shown to stand my horse not square, but with one leg each back slightly so you can see the inside of the legs (you'll know what I mean). I went to one show and did this then the judge asked me to stand the horse square? To,say I was confused...haha

Depends on breed. Many sporty horses are shown as you said to show all legs and flatter the croup (or hide a bad one :p ) but many judges want to see them square now to assess their croups properly and to check the legs straightness. Standing the horse Unsquare or overly stretched can hide a multitude of sins but judges see through it

So what's the right answer, square or not square? If I go to my clinic I can ask :) it was in an open young horse class, mine at more specific shows would be riding horse young stock

How you stand the horse entirely depends on which judge you are under and what classes you are doing. Old fashioned Hunter judges prefer to see all 4 legs - so not square. Show ponies/Hunter ponies, coloureds tend to be shown all square and natives tend to be stood square in front and fractionally off set behind.

It's a mine field but do your research and you can't go far wrong.

Yep as said it all depends. Breed and judge will be main factors. Just copy everyone else and do what the judge asks you to do lol

Gosh it seems complicated! As I say, she'll be in the open young stock class at lower level and it's only at county level down here they have more specific class and as I mentioned we will be in riding horse class, for young stock. She's not a hunter but can do part bred m and m.

So how would they stand, regardless of judge...for now? I'll of course try to find out before as I have this clinic and have someone who does hoys etc coming for a session too.

So confusing!

If you are first then go by this theory - if the judge is older stand all 4 offset. Anyone else go for front square, hinds slightly off.

Ok this is a good theory and actually, makes sense. The man who asked me to stand squarer was younger....this is a good theory! Please could you write a book of tips and showing secrets for me, you're brilliant help!
