In hand showing dress code?

My mare is due to foal in May and I plan to show her and the foal once foally is old enough. They'll be in hunter catagory but have never really shown in hand before so am unsure what the dress code is.
Two of my friends are going to do the actual showing for me as I can't run.

Given it's mare and foal should both handlers wear the same? Should it be tweed or is a black jacket ok or should it just be smart clothes?
 
Also should the foal be in a leather headcollar or one of those white rope/webbing halter things?

Is it ok to show the mare in her normal bridle with a leather line on the bit or does she need a proper in-hand bridle?

The handlers should be in tweed jackets, with cream or dark trousers. They do not need to be exactly the same but should be similar.

Mare should be shown in a plain double bridle, with normal reins not a lead rein, a snaffle would do if you prefer, foal in smart leather headcollar and lead rein to match.

Even tho she's not doing any ridden class - her's will be the broodmare class.
Also if it should be a double, she's normally ridden in a pelham so should be use that (with the double reins) or would we be better using a small eggbut?

I've done ridden showing a few times but never in hand :D

Even tho it will only be 2-3 months, possibly only about 5-6 weeks for the first show depending on when it's born (I obviously won't travel younger than is safe and will check with vet on that)
 
Depends what level you are doing it at. Affiliated/County level, as soon as there is remotely any mane to plait, the pro's will have got plaits in there in my experience!

Locally you'll be fine without I expect :)
 
1 county show (still is a local show for me tho :D) and the others will be smaller local ones - it's mainly for experience for the foal and to get it out and about.
I don't want to travel the foal more than about 30 minutes so thats limiting which shows we go to
 
Plain leather double/pelham bridle for the mare. Leather foal slip/head collar on the foal. Both manes plaited, mares tail pulled foals left be.

Handlers should be wearing tweed jackets, shirt, tie, beige or navy trousers depending on the colour of the horses legs.

Make sure you foal walks and trots nicely behind mum without crashing into her behind. It is also better if the foal can stand in the middle or relatively calmly walk to the back of the line whilst the mare does her trot round the ring. Try both out and find out which works best for your pair. Some can't tollerate the short seperation whilst others couldnt care less.

Thanks for all the advice - the one thing I'm dreading is taking her feather's off (mare is TBxID x cob so has a nice line of sorta flag feathers down the back of her leg - obviously can't leave those on for hunter class but has taken 18 months to regrow them from last time they had to come off :( )
Although (I know it's all 'wrong') I refuse to remove whiskers at all!!! they have them for a reason and she will get any beard/excess hair tidied up but she is keeping her whiskers (unless by some miracle we ever qualified for somewhere like HOYS, then I might for a special occasion :rolleyes:)
