I'm picking up a new project next weekend, a 15hh 6 year old chestnut arab gelding. His sire is 'FL Sayawan' if that means anything to anyone.
Now, I'm the first to admit that I know nothing about showing, I'm a showjumping girl all the way, but this new project needs to get out and compete and I thought, since he is very green, that in hand showing might be a good idea to get him started, plus I have noticed that arabs often get their own special classes.
Any advice, hints and tips would be very much appreciated!
Please keep in mind I'm no novice, but totally clueless re the showing world!
I'm not sure what level to enter into, what to wear, what to do to prepare horse, what we will be expected to do in the ring etc etc etc!

Best place to get advice on this subject is Arabianlines :) plenty of showing people on there. Personally i dont like the big arab shows & just stick to local & county shows with Arab classes, but its all a matter of prefrence. Good luck with your new project, whats his name & any pics :)

Thank you! Will have a look - I'm a total novice regarding showing as its not really my thing, but really want to get this little boy out to a party and think showing in hand would do him good.
This is him, his stable name is Alfie :) With any luck I'm picking him up next weekend :)

your new project is very well bred! go onto the Chris Cole bloodstock web site- regarding the showing i know zilch!!( these days anyway.)

Fantastic bloodlines with Carmargue and Morafic. He looks like a lovely stamp of arab :D

R.e. showing arabs, this is quite a good website with a bit of info: http://rehorses.com/arabs.html

I have shown in affiliated arab comps with my PBA in hand and ridden...we are no way affiliated material, but it's great fun. Also lucky with the purebred, you don't have to plait and you don't have to wear a jacket...just something smart.

Added: Just realised you are in East Sussex. SEAHG is the arab group in your area, the same one i'm in. There big summer show is at Hickstead! It was amazing last year and even though my horse isn't a show horse, I felt so amazing walking my horse around Hickstead, definetly worth a visit.

I know several showing venues nearish me (west sussex) that do inhand arab (non-affiliated)

The only thing that is a bit odd (I may be missing something) is that the pedigree linked above on allbreeds is for a horse born in 1997 who is bay...so may not be your horse or may not be the horse in the pic?

The sire is the bay, the photo is my new boy :) Thank you SO much for the link and the advice! I really need all the help I can get with arabs and showing, but I hope we can do some without looking too clueless!!!

Ha ha yep I just realised that, I deleted that bit off the original post and edited it a bit...perhaps I should go to bed now :D

Holt Farm & Oakwood Park do arab classes...as does alot of riding club shows.

Miskettie - Thank you! I just did a few days at Hickstead jumping but would lvoe to go and do some showing, not sure if I would be up for that level though! Thank you for the links and group info :D

not sure if I would be up for that level though!

I came last in one class and second to last in another...Still loved every minute of it. They also do amatuer handler and other classes.

Oooo lucky you to go jumping there :D

What's your boys reg name?

I looked at the Hickstead classes, wow lots to choose from! And I know Oakward Park already so like the sound of that!
His registered name is 'Springbok' And I think his mum is called Dikdik.
Once he arrives I will post lots of photos and ask everyones opinion on what classes will suit us best :)
