Hi, I have a few questions that I was hoping the more experienced amongst you could help me with. I have done showing before but not for a few years and then only ridden (workers, veteran, m&m etc). I've decided to enter 2 of mine in a local county show in July. Only showing the horse in hand as have a wintec saddle and can't afford to upgrade to leather at the moment. Also as it's been many years since I've set foot in a show ring I'll be ****ping myself and in-hand should be a good way to ease myself back into it!

Anyway #1 is a 14.3hh traditional piebald cob, 12 years old. I need some pointers with our turnout. This is what I was planning on... Me - Tweed hacking jacket, white shirt and red tie, black tailored trousers, jod boots, navy hat with flesh harness, brown leather gloves and showing cane. Him - Brown leather bridle with thick cavesson noseband, eggbutt snaffle, but not sure what type of lead I use, coupling, or reins over the head? Confused!

2nd is my miniature gelding (will be 15 mths at time of show). There's only the 1 mini class "Open Miniature Class, any age, any colour - Not to Exceed 34 inches". Can I show him in what i'm wearing to show my cob? The two classes run one after the other so there won't be time to change (best friend/head groom will be warming up #2 for me!!). I've done my research on miniature horse sites and have decided on the following - showing him clipped as he has a super long coat at the moment. i'll also be clipping a mega bridle path. I have bought a miniature show halter which came with a chain and leather lead which i'll use. In pics i've seen of mini showing everyone seems to be wearing a smart suit/skirt suit and trilby type hat. Will I be out of place in my riding hat and hacking jacket? Should I carry a cane? Also, as it's just the 1 class at a county show, will people still follow normal miniature horse showing protocol or will they show them more as ponies ie au naturel?

Am confident on preparation & condition of my GGs but am also fairly clueless as what to expect in the ring. I'll be ok if someone does their show before me but knowing my luck i'll be asked to go first! Haven't even watched an in-hand class for years - although I should be able to get out to a couple before then to do some research. Any help massively appreciated!!

Horse 1......I'd go for a rugby pelham - complete with sliphead on top ring - instead of eggbut, looks more professional, I always put reins over head and have done really well in inhand cob classes! and a cream or lemon shirt - white is too stark.

Minis - hmmmm I have no idea, best to pm stinkbomb, as she shows one to a high level!!
