Following on from the other showing threads........would it be ok to use a Welsh showing whip for other M & M's, namely a Dales pony, bearing in mind we only do low level local shows?

Also what is the correct way to hold it please?

Anyone got any pics?

I use one to show my cob in coloured and cob classes, i hold it with the thong in my left hand and just let go of the thong section when it comes to trot up. Its worth practising with it as my mare used to jump sidewards if i flicked it, she now understands im not hitting her and i flick it behind my back whilst running and she responds.
Hope that makes sense...

Although the inhand whip with a long thong is often called a welsh whip, it is actually just an inhand whip that a lot of the welsh folks like to use, hence why it is known as a welsh whip.

Jeffries sell it as an inhand whip.

I have used one at affiliated and county level on my traditional, though now he goes well, I tend to use my cane without a thong.

I hold it like any cane, but you can craftly go along flicking the thong. I prefer to use it to warm up as Stinky needs to be livened up before going into the ring unless he is on one of his rare strutting it for all his worth days, ie give him a flick as I go along to get him forward - as you would with your legs/whip when riding. I then change to my other cane as by then I don't need the thong and the longer cane is better to guide him round the corner if we are really going for it - traditionals like welshies, really trot out.
